توفّي أسطورة نادي وست هام يونايتد الإنجليزي بيلي بوندز اليوم (الأحد) عن عمر ناهز 79 عاماً. وخاض بوندز 799 مباراة مع وست هام، وقاد الفريق للتتويج بكأس الاتحاد الإنجليزي عامي 1975 و1980. وأمضى 21 عاماً لاعباً في صفوف النادي بين 1967 و1988، قبل أن يتولى تدريب الفريق من 1990 إلى 1994.
بيان العائلة
وقالت عائلته في بيان: «نشعر بحزن شديد لإعلان أننا فقدنا والدنا الحبيب اليوم، لقد كان مخلصاً لأسرته، لطيفاً، وفياً، وغير أناني».
وأضاف البيان: «كان يحب نادي وست هام يونايتد وجماهيره الرائعة بكل قلبه، ويعتز بكل لحظة قضاها مع الفريق، سيظل في قلوبنا دائماً، وسنفتقده إلى الأبد، ونجد بعض العزاء في أن إرثه سيبقى خالداً».
دقيقة حداد
ووقف لاعبو وست هام وليفربول دقيقة حداد على روحه قبل انطلاق مباراتهما في الدوري الإنجليزي عصر اليوم.
كما رفع قائد الفريق جارود بوين قميصاً يحمل رقم بوندز (4) وسط تصفيق الجماهير، ثم وضعه أمام المدرج الذي سُمّي باسمه تكريماً له في عام 2019.
The legend of West Ham United, Billy Bonds, passed away today (Sunday) at the age of 79. Bonds played 799 matches for West Ham and led the team to win the FA Cup in 1975 and 1980. He spent 21 years as a player at the club from 1967 to 1988, before taking over as manager from 1990 to 1994.
Family Statement
His family said in a statement: "We are deeply saddened to announce that we lost our beloved father today. He was devoted to his family, kind, loyal, and selfless."
The statement added: "He loved West Ham United and its wonderful fans with all his heart, and cherished every moment spent with the team. He will always remain in our hearts, and we will miss him forever, finding some comfort in the fact that his legacy will live on."
Minute of Silence
Players from West Ham and Liverpool observed a minute of silence in his memory before the start of their Premier League match this afternoon.
Team captain Jarrod Bowen also held up a shirt bearing Bonds' number (4) amidst the applause of the fans, then placed it in front of the stand named in his honor in 2019.
