ورغم أن أموريم أشرف على أسوأ ترتيب لمانشستر يونايتد في الدوري منذ موسم 1973-1974، فقد وعده أحد ملاك النادي، السير جيم راتكليف، بمنحه الوقت الكافي لإثبات قدرته على أن يكون مدرباً «عظيماً»، حيث صرح بأن المدرب البرتغالي يحتاج إلى 3 سنوات لتحقيق النجاح مع الفريق.

أما الأسماء الكبيرة الأخرى فلم تُمنح الوقت ذاته؛ فقد أقيل جوزيه مورينيو بعد عامين وستة أشهر، ولويس فان غال بعد عام وعشرة أشهر، بينما استمر إريك تين هاغ لمدة عامين وأربعة أشهر قبل أن تتم إقالته.
