افتتح ريان جرافينبيرش التسجيل لصالح «الريدز» في الدقيقة 35، بتسديدة أرضية قوية من خارج منطقة الجزاء، استقرت في الزاوية اليمنى لحارس نيوكاسل.
وتلقى أصحاب الأرض ضربة موجعة في الدقيقة الثالثة من الوقت بدل الضائع للشوط الأول (45+3)، بعد طرد لاعبهم أنتوني جوردن إثر تدخل عنيف على فيرجيل فان دايك، مدافع ليفربول.
ومع بداية الشوط الثاني، عزز ليفربول تقدمه بهدف ثانٍ عبر الفرنسي هوغو إيكيتيكي، الذي سدد كرة أرضية من داخل المنطقة سكنت الشباك.
ونجح نيوكاسل في تقليص الفارق في الدقيقة 57، بعدما ارتقى البرازيلي برونو جيمارايش لعرضية متقنة من الجهة اليمنى، وأودعها برأسه في المرمى.
وواصل نيوكاسل ضغطه، ليتمكن ويليام أوسولا من إدراك التعادل، مستغلاً سوء تمركز دفاع ليفربول، لينفرد بالحارس أليسون بيكر ويضع الكرة في الشباك.
لكن فرحة أصحاب الأرض لم تدم طويلاً، إذ خطف البديل ريو نغوموها هدف الفوز لليفربول في الدقيقة 90+10، بعد أن استغل ارتباك الدفاع ووجد نفسه دون رقابة داخل المنطقة.
بهذا الفوز، رفع ليفربول رصيده إلى 6 نقاط ليحتل المركز الثالث في جدول الترتيب، متأخراً بفارق الأهداف عن أرسنال وتوتنهام، فيما تجمد رصيد نيوكاسل عند نقطة واحدة في المركز الـ15.

The home team suffered a painful blow in the third minute of stoppage time in the first half (45+3), when their player Anthony Gordon was sent off after a violent tackle on Liverpool's defender Virgil van Dijk.
At the start of the second half, Liverpool extended their lead with a second goal from Frenchman Hugo Ekitike, who shot a low ball from inside the area that found the back of the net.
Newcastle managed to reduce the deficit in the 57th minute, as Brazilian Bruno Guimarães rose to meet a precise cross from the right side and headed it into the goal.
Newcastle continued to apply pressure, and William Osula was able to equalize, taking advantage of Liverpool's defensive disorganization, breaking free from the goalkeeper Alisson Becker and placing the ball in the net.
However, the home team's joy was short-lived, as substitute Rio Nguema snatched the winning goal for Liverpool in the 90+10 minute, capitalizing on the defensive confusion and finding himself unmarked inside the area.
With this victory, Liverpool raised their points total to 6, occupying third place in the standings, trailing on goal difference behind Arsenal and Tottenham, while Newcastle's points remained at one, placing them in 15th position.
