وجّه الاتحاد الأفريقي لكرة القدم (كاف) صدمة مفاجئة لفريق بيراميدز حامل لقب دوري أبطال أفريقيا في نسخته الأخيرة، وذلك قبل انطلاق منافسات النسخة المقبلة من البطولة القارية.
وقرر الكاف منح الإعفاء من خوض الدور التمهيدي إلى 5 أندية فقط وهي: الأهلي المصري، الترجي التونسي، ماميلودي صن داونز الجنوب أفريقي، نهضة بركان المغربي، وسيمبا التنزاني، في حين غاب اسم بيراميدز رغم تتويجه الأخير.
ويستند «كاف» في تحديد الأندية المعفاة إلى التصنيف التراكمي للأداء القاري خلال آخر 5 سنوات، وهو ما لم ينجح بيراميدز في تحقيقه حتى الآن نتيجة حداثة مشاركاته في البطولات الأفريقية مقارنة بالفرق الأخرى ذات الخبرة الطويلة.
وكان بيراميدز المصري قد توج أخيراً ببطولة دوري أبطال أفريقيا للمرة الأولى في تاريخه بعد الفوز في النهائي على ماميلودي صن داونز الجنوب أفريقي بنتيجة 2/3 بمجموع مباراتي الذهاب والإياب.
ليصبح رابع فريق مصري يتوّج بلقب دوري أبطال أفريقيا، بعد الأهلي والزمالك والإسماعيلي.
The African Football Confederation (CAF) has delivered a surprising shock to the Pyramids team, the reigning champion of the African Champions League in its latest edition, just before the start of the next edition of the continental tournament.
CAF decided to grant exemption from the preliminary round to only 5 clubs: Al Ahly of Egypt, Esperance of Tunisia, Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, RS Berkane of Morocco, and Simba of Tanzania, while the name of Pyramids was absent despite their recent title.
CAF bases its decision on the cumulative performance ranking over the last 5 years, which Pyramids has not yet achieved due to the recent nature of their participation in African tournaments compared to other teams with long-standing experience.
The Egyptian Pyramids recently won the African Champions League for the first time in their history after defeating Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa with a score of 2/3 on aggregate over the two-legged final.
This makes them the fourth Egyptian team to win the African Champions League title, after Al Ahly, Zamalek, and Ismaily.
