The Egyptian sports community witnessed a deep sense of sorrow today (Friday) following the announcement of the death of young player Youssef El-Shemy, a forward for the youth team of Tala'ea El-Gaish Club (born in 2009), as a result of a tragic train accident that occurred this morning in the city of Tukh, located in the Qalyubia Governorate, north of Cairo.
According to preliminary information, the accident happened while the player was attempting to cross a railway crossing with his friend Youssef Abu El-Nasr, at a time coinciding with the passage of a fast train, which led to the train colliding with them and resulting in their immediate deaths.
Security sources confirmed that the accident resulted from crossing the closed railway gate at an inappropriate time, which caused the violent collision and led to the deaths of the two young men at the scene of the accident. Their bodies were transferred to a nearby hospital under the authority of the public prosecution, which began an investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances and assign responsibilities.
The city of Tukh witnessed two separate funerals for the young men, where Youssef El-Shemy's body was carried from Al-Omari Mosque amidst a large turnout of family and friends in an atmosphere overshadowed by grief and despair, while his friend's body was carried from their village mosque in Namoul.
El-Shemy was considered one of the most promising talents in the youth sector of Tala'ea El-Gaish Club and had previously caught the attention of the coaching staff of the Egyptian youth national team due to his remarkable performance and high technical abilities, as he aspired to rise to the first team and represent Egypt on an international level.
Tala'ea El-Gaish Club mourned their late player with poignant words, and the club received condolences from a large number of clubs and sports figures in Egypt, who expressed their deep sorrow over the loss of a young player who represented a model of hope and ambition in Egyptian football.
Investigations by the relevant authorities are ongoing, amid calls to tighten safety measures at railway crossings to prevent the recurrence of such tragic accidents that claim the lives of innocent people, especially among the youth.
Youssef El-Shemy passed away at a young age, leaving behind a short but brilliant career, and a dream unfulfilled on Egyptian pitches.
