Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has shortened his planned visit to the United States for the United Nations General Assembly meetings to just a few hours, a move that comes amid American warnings of a potential unexpected security escalation in the Middle East.
The Israeli channel "i24NEWS" reported that Netanyahu will head directly to New York on the day he delivers his speech to the General Assembly (Thursday), and will leave the United States immediately after the speech, after it was originally planned for him to start his visit from Texas before moving to New York.
According to two informed sources cited by the channel, Netanyahu intended to hold a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio before his speech, although it remains unclear whether the meeting will remain on the agenda after the visit was shortened.
The shortening of the visit comes at a time when the region is experiencing widespread escalation, with the ongoing repercussions of the American and Israeli war with Iran, and rising tensions in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab, prompting Washington to renew its security warnings to those in the area.
Meanwhile, Israeli attacks continue in Lebanon, and according to the Lebanese news agency, the Israeli army carried out a series of explosions in the town of Majdal Zoun, coinciding with a sweeping operation in the area. It reported that Israeli artillery targeted the town of Aita al-Jabal in the Bent Jbeil district in southern Lebanon.
