As U.S. President Donald Trump cut short his vacation at the Camp David presidential retreat and decided to return to the White House amid warnings of a potential sudden escalation in the Middle East, Iran's chief negotiator and parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf emphasized today (Sunday) the necessity of implementing his country's conditions if negotiations were to resume, hinting at a new wave of escalation.
Qalibaf stated in his remarks: "The binary of war or negotiation is not real; we must engage in war rationally and powerfully, and we must also negotiate with logic and strength at the appropriate time," adding: "There is no room to return to previous negotiation conditions or to reopen the Strait of Hormuz if our conditions are not met, our people's legitimate rights are not recognized, and Washington does not fulfill its commitments."
He pointed out that their diplomatic stance in Iran is completely clear and logical and cannot be compromised, indicating that Iran's messages and conditions have been conveyed clearly to the other side through intermediaries, who are well aware that the path of deception and imposing unilateral conditions has now been closed.
Qalibaf revealed the existence of two opposing currents in his country, for and against war, stating: "The perspective that speaks of war internally without having a mechanism to end it competently, and the current that advocates surrender and acceptance of its conditions, both suffer from a miscalculation," explaining that the perspective advocating war and rejecting any diplomatic path is practically driving the country towards exhaustion and an endless war, while "the current demanding surrender is also dragging the country towards offering its resources and national dignity to the enemy.".. as he described it.
In contrast, the American news site "Axios" reported that Trump cut short his weekly vacation at Camp David and returned to the White House last night (Saturday), 24 hours earlier than previously scheduled, while the White House did not clarify the reason for the early return from the presidential retreat.
The U.S. State Department had stated that the security environment in the Middle East remains complex, warning of the possibility of unexpected escalation.
The department urged those in the region to exercise increased caution and to prepare for the possibility of flight cancellations, airspace closures, and disruptions in travel movement.
