In a scene that shocked passersby and stunned the Arab street, the sidewalk opposite one of the largest hospitals turned into an open delivery room. The cries for help from the woman did not save her from the harshness of the situation, as her search for medical care ended with a child seeing the light of day on the sidewalk, amidst a wave of astonishment and outrage that ignited social media platforms.
The incident began in the early hours of the evening when a Moroccan woman was suddenly struck by labor pains while near the "Mohammed VI" University Hospital in Agadir, Morocco. As the sudden pains intensified, the woman rushed towards the nearest entrance of the hospital, hoping for quick assistance. However, the shocking surprise came at the entrance, where a security guard stationed there refused her entry and insisted on directing her to another entrance that was not close by, without considering her critical health condition.
Despite the woman's pleas and her attempts to explain her situation, stating that she was in the final moments of labor, the guard remained steadfast in his administrative decision. As she painfully made her way to the other entrance, her body succumbed to the violent labor pains, causing her to collapse on the sidewalk and give birth in the open air under extremely harsh and dangerous humanitarian conditions.
Conflicting Accounts
The details of the scene, as reported by local newspapers, sparked a massive wave of strong condemnation, with urgent public demands for a transparent investigation and a review of surveillance camera footage to assess the actions of the security personnel, who have faced repeated accusations of harsh treatment towards patients and visitors.
In response, the hospital administration did not delay in issuing an official statement to clarify its position. The "Souss-Massa Health Group" stated that the woman arrived at the facility in a very advanced stage of labor and approached an entrance designated exclusively for staff. The statement added that the guard directed her towards the maternity emergency department and immediately notified the medical team to receive her; however, the birth occurred unexpectedly and rapidly while she was walking.
The administration confirmed that the medical teams rushed to the street as soon as they were informed and provided all necessary assistance to the mother and her newborn before transferring them inside, noting that both were in excellent health and left the hospital yesterday after receiving full care.
Despite the official reassurances regarding the safety of the mother and the newborn, the Moroccan public continues to demand genuine accountability that goes beyond media statements. For the Moroccan street, the issue is no longer just a "sudden birth," but has become a symbol of the call to reconsider the powers of private security personnel and to provide fast lanes for urgent humanitarian cases to prevent scenes of childbirth on the sidewalks from recurring.
