More than 18 Houthi militants were killed and others were injured today (Thursday) in battles with the Yemeni army west of Taiz.
The media center of the Yemeni armed forces quoted a military source as saying: The heroes of the armed forces today repelled an attack launched by the Houthi terrorist militia on their positions in the fronts of the Maqbana mountains west of Taiz governorate, managing to thwart the infiltration attempts carried out by the militia in the sectors of Al-Ahtoub, Al-Tawir, Al-Kadhah, and Jabal Ghabari. The armed forces launched a counterattack on the same fronts, coinciding with concentrated artillery shelling targeting the militia's positions and gatherings, resulting in the neutralization of more than 18 elements of the Houthi terrorist militia and injuring others, in addition to capturing several militia members.
The source stated that the bodies of several militia casualties are still lying in the confrontation areas, noting that air defenses managed to shoot down three drones belonging to the Houthi terrorist militias that were attempting to target the armed forces' positions.
The source indicated that the armed forces destroyed several militia vehicles in the operational theater, killing those on board.
Threat to Yemen's Food Security
Meanwhile, a recent international report from the "Famine Early Warning Systems Network" (FEWS NET) revealed catastrophic repercussions from the attacks launched by the Houthi militia on the Al-Mokha port and navigation routes in Bab al-Mandab, confirming that the targeting caused severe damage to the country's infrastructure and disrupted supply chains and trade, warning of a worsening food insecurity crisis until January 2027.
The network stated that assaults on ports and disruption of trade routes, along with military escalation, will continue to pressure the availability and prices of goods, clarifying that the biggest loser from these assaults is the economic and humanitarian sector.
The network estimated the direct damages to Al-Mokha port at about $79 million, in addition to the suspension of operations there and the impact on the livelihoods of thousands of workers connected to service activities. The attacks also resulted in 16 fatalities and 22 injuries.
The food security outlook update clarified that disruptions in trade routes and rising shipping and insurance costs are placing severe pressures on the prices of basic and imported goods in a country that relies almost entirely on imports to meet its food needs.
It noted that transit traffic in the Bab al-Mandab Strait decreased by 24% compared to pre-escalation levels, while the movement of major oil tankers dropped by 42%, raising transportation costs and increasing the risks of supply disruptions.
The network emphasized that military escalation in Yemen reached its highest levels this year in June and July, with an increase in attacks involving missiles, drones, clashes, and artillery shelling.
