The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, confirmed that the agricultural and food security system in the member states represents a strategic priority and a fundamental axis in the course of joint Gulf action, stemming from the member states' interest in developing agricultural and food production and enhancing their readiness to face challenges.
This came during his chairing of the thirty-eighth meeting of the Agricultural Cooperation and Food Security Committee of the Gulf Cooperation Council, which was held in Manama under the presidency of the Bahraini Minister of Municipalities and Agriculture, Wael Al-Mubarak, and in the presence of the ministers concerned with agriculture and food security in the member states.
Al-Budaiwi pointed out that the nineteenth consultative meeting of the Supreme Council held in Jeddah last April resulted in directives to enhance the readiness of the member states to face crises, including the study of establishing strategic storage areas in the Gulf.
He reviewed the most prominent national efforts in this field, including the UAE's employment of agricultural technologies in developing quality crops, Saudi Arabia's enhancement of its strategic food stock and early warning system, and Qatar's implementation of its National Food Security Strategy 2030, along with similar programs in Bahrain, Oman, and Kuwait, emphasizing that these efforts constitute a fundamental support for achieving the goals of the Gulf food security strategy.
