In an "unprecedented" incident between two security agencies in the country, the Ukrainian Security Service accused military intelligence today (Wednesday) of being behind the attack carried out by a group of armed individuals on a team belonging to the agency while they were conducting a security operation in the capital, Kyiv.
The agency stated that it had to call in elements of the special "Alpha" unit and use weapons to control the attackers, noting that there were injuries during the clash.
The Ukrainian Security Service indicated that elements from military intelligence were behind the attack on the team while they were carrying out investigative procedures and gathering evidence in a case related to an assassination plot, explaining that the Russian Federal Security Service had prepared it to target one of the Russian opposition leaders present in Ukraine.
The agency mentioned that it called in a special unit and used weapons to stop the attack, resulting in injuries to several attackers and their arrest, clarifying that they belong to one of the units of the Ukrainian defense forces.
The Ukrainian Security Service noted that weapons and documents were seized from the attackers after they were subdued.
For his part, Ukrainian presidential advisor Dmytro Litvin stated that President Volodymyr Zelensky demanded that the leaders of the relevant agencies provide information to the public regarding the shooting incident that occurred in Kyiv, indicating that Zelensky criticized the lack of public clarifications from these agencies so far.
In turn, the prosecutor's office announced the opening of an investigation into the threats and assault on the life of a law enforcement officer.
Despite the tensions and disagreements between the two agencies, the incident is considered a precedent.
There have previously been discrepancies in positions and conflicting narratives regarding several sensitive operations and files.
