نجحت القوات الاتحادية الصومالية، اليوم (الإثنين)، في طرد جماعات مسلحة من مدينة بيدوة بعد معارك ضارية، أودت بحياة العشرات.
وذكرت وسائل إعلام صومالية أن مدينة بيدوة، التي تعد واحدة من أكبر مدن الصومال ويعيش بها مئات الآلاف من النازحين الفارين من الصراع والجوع في مناطق أخرى، شهدت اشتباكات استمرت لساعات بين القوات الاتحادية وجماعات مسلحة موالية للرئيس السابق لولاية جنوب غرب الصومال، عبدالعزيز حسن محمد لفتاجرين.
وقال سكان إن الاشتباكات التي وقعت في وسط المدينة كانت الأعنف منذ مارس، عندما سيطرت القوات الاتحادية على بيدوة بعد أن أعلنت إدارة لفتاجرين قطع علاقاتها مع الحكومة الاتحادية، ثم استقال لفتاجرين من منصبه.
وتواجه الحكومة الصومالية، إلى جانب حركة الشباب الإرهابية التابعة لتنظيم القاعدة، حركات مسلحة في عدد من الولايات، وبحسب وزارة الدفاع الصومالية فإن القوات المتمركزة في بيدوة تعرضت لهجوم قبل الفجر على يد مسلحين يستخدمون مركبات محملة بالمتفجرات.
وقالت الوزارة في بيان إن قواتها طردت المهاجمين من بيدوة وقتلت نحو 30 منهم. وقال زعماء قبليون إنهم شاهدوا 10 جثث بينهم أربعة مدنيين وستة من الجنود والمسلحين.
وتخوض الحكومة الصومالية منذ سنوات مواجهة مفتوحة مع حركة الشباب المرتبطة بتنظيم القاعدة، وتسعى القوات الحكومية بدعم من قوات محلية وشركاء دوليين إلى استعادة السيطرة على المناطق التي تنشط فيها الحركة.
وتستغل الجماعة هشاشة الوضع الأمني والسياسي لتنفيذ هجمات تستهدف القوات الحكومية والمدنيين والمنشآت الحيوية.
The Somali federal forces succeeded today (Monday) in driving armed groups out of the city of Baidoa after fierce battles that claimed dozens of lives.
Somali media reported that the city of Baidoa, which is one of the largest cities in Somalia and home to hundreds of thousands of displaced people fleeing conflict and hunger from other areas, witnessed clashes that lasted for hours between federal forces and armed groups loyal to the former president of the Southwest State of Somalia, Abdulaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen.
Residents stated that the clashes that occurred in the city center were the fiercest since March, when federal forces took control of Baidoa after Laftagareen's administration announced it had severed ties with the federal government, and then Laftagareen resigned from his position.
The Somali government is facing, alongside the Al-Shabaab terrorist group affiliated with Al-Qaeda, armed movements in several states. According to the Somali Ministry of Defense, the forces stationed in Baidoa were attacked before dawn by militants using vehicles loaded with explosives.
The ministry stated in a statement that its forces drove the attackers out of Baidoa and killed about 30 of them. Tribal leaders reported seeing 10 bodies, including four civilians and six soldiers and militants.
The Somali government has been engaged in an open confrontation with the Al-Shabaab group linked to Al-Qaeda for years, and government forces, supported by local forces and international partners, are striving to regain control of the areas where the group operates.
The group exploits the fragility of the security and political situation to carry out attacks targeting government forces, civilians, and vital facilities.
