سجلت السيدة الأولى الأمريكية ميلانيا ترمب تراجعاً قياسياً في شعبيتها، لتصبح صاحبة أدنى صافي تأييد بين السيدات الأول اللاتي شملتهن استطلاعات الرأي، في وقت يلفت فيه غيابها المتكرر عن المشهد العام الانتباه إلى طبيعة دورها خلال الولاية الرئاسية الثانية لزوجها دونالد ترمب.
وبحسب أرقام منسوبة إلى استطلاعات شبكة «سي إن إن» ومؤسسة «إس إس آر إس»، يبلغ صافي تأييد ميلانيا ترمب حالياً -12%، بعدما قال 41% من الأمريكيين إن لديهم نظرة سلبية تجاهها، مقابل 29% أعربوا عن نظرة إيجابية.
ويأتي هذا التراجع في وقت تتسم فيه مشاركة ميلانيا في الحياة العامة بقدر لافت من المحدودية. ووفق مراجعة حديثة لجدول أعمالها، لم تظهر السيدة الأولى علناً سوى 38 يوماً خلال عام 2026 حتى الآن، فيما اقتصرت مشاركاتها بدرجة كبيرة على مناسبات محددة داخل واشنطن وعدد قليل من الولايات.
وكان آخر ظهور علني بارز لميلانيا ترمب في 19 يوليو الماضي، عندما حضرت برفقة زوجها نهائي كأس العالم لكرة القدم في ولاية نيوجيرسي، ومنذ ذلك الحين غابت عن عدد من المناسبات العامة التي عادة ما تحظى بحضور السيدة الأولى.
ويعيد هذا التراجع إلى الواجهة سجل ميلانيا ترمب مع استطلاعات الشعبية، إذ أنهت ولايتها الأولى في البيت الأبيض عام 2021 بأدنى تقييم نهائي بين السيدات الأول اللاتي شملتهن استطلاعات المقارنة آنذاك، بعدما بلغت نسبة تأييدها 42% مقابل 47% عبروا عن عدم تأييدهم لها، لتكون السيدة الأولى الوحيدة التي أنهت فترة زوجها الرئاسية بصافي تقييم سلبي.
وكانت هيلاري كلينتون قد عُدت قبل ذلك من أكثر السيدات الأول إثارة للانقسام، لكنها غادرت البيت الأبيض في نهاية ولاية زوجها بيل كلينتون عام 2001 بنسبة تأييد بلغت 52% مقابل 39% رفضاً، وهي أرقام ظلت أفضل من تقييم ميلانيا النهائي في ولايتها الأولى.
وفي المقابل، حظيت سيدات أول أخريات، من بينهن لورا بوش وميشيل أوباما، بمستويات شعبية أعلى بكثير في نهاية فترات وجودهن في البيت الأبيض، ما يعكس الفارق الكبير في طبيعة الحضور السياسي والإعلامي بينهن وبين ميلانيا ترمب.
ولا يرتبط الجدل حول شعبية ميلانيا بغيابها عن المناسبات العامة فحسب، إذ رافقت فترة وجودها الأولى في البيت الأبيض مجموعة من المواقف التي أثارت انتقادات واسعة، كان أبرزها ارتداؤها خلال زيارة لأطفال مهاجرين في مركز احتجاز بولاية تكساس عام 2018 سترة تحمل عبارة أثارت جدلاً واسعاً: «أنا حقاً لا أهتم، هل تهتم أنت؟».
كما ظلت ميلانيا هدفاً لعدد من الشائعات والنظريات المتداولة على مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي، من بينها تكهنات متكررة بشأن استعانتها بشبيهة لها في بعض المناسبات، وهي ادعاءات لم تثبت صحتها، لكنها ساهمت في إبقاء حضورها الإعلامي محاطاً بالجدل.
وفي تعليقه على نتائج الاستطلاع، قال كبير محللي البيانات في «سي إن إن» هاري إنتن إن ميلانيا «تحطم الأرقام القياسية بالطريقة التي لا ترغب أي سيدة أولى في تحطيمها»، في إشارة إلى المستوى التاريخي المتدني لتقييم شعبيتها.

According to figures attributed to polls by CNN and the SSRS organization, Melania Trump's current net approval rating stands at -12%, after 41% of Americans expressed a negative view of her, compared to 29% who expressed a positive view.
This decline comes at a time when Melania's participation in public life is notably limited. According to a recent review of her schedule, the First Lady has only appeared publicly for 38 days in 2026 so far, with her engagements largely confined to specific events within Washington and a few states.
The last prominent public appearance of Melania Trump was on July 19, when she attended the World Cup final in New Jersey with her husband, and since then she has missed several public events that typically see the First Lady in attendance.
This decline brings back into focus Melania Trump's record with popularity polls, as she ended her first term in the White House in 2021 with the lowest final rating among first ladies included in comparison polls at that time, with her approval rating at 42% compared to 47% who expressed disapproval, making her the only First Lady to finish her husband's presidential term with a net negative rating.
Hillary Clinton had previously been considered one of the most divisive first ladies, but she left the White House at the end of her husband Bill Clinton's term in 2001 with an approval rating of 52% compared to 39% disapproval, figures that remained better than Melania's final rating in her first term.
In contrast, other First Ladies, including Laura Bush and Michelle Obama, enjoyed much higher popularity levels at the end of their tenures in the White House, reflecting the significant difference in the nature of political and media presence between them and Melania Trump.
The controversy surrounding Melania's popularity is not only linked to her absence from public events, as her first term in the White House was marked by a series of incidents that drew widespread criticism, the most notable being when she wore a jacket with a controversial phrase during a visit to immigrant children at a detention center in Texas in 2018: "I really don't care, do you?"
Melania has also remained the target of various rumors and theories circulating on social media, including repeated speculation about her using a look-alike at some events, claims that have not been substantiated but have contributed to keeping her media presence surrounded by controversy.
Commenting on the survey results, CNN's chief data analyst Harry Enten stated that Melania "is breaking records in a way that no First Lady would want to break," referring to the historically low level of her popularity rating.
