فيما دعت باكستان إلى خفض التصعيد والالتزام بتفاهمات إسلام آباد، أكّد الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، اليوم (الأحد)، أن مضيق هرمز مفتوح، بعدما زعمت إيران إغلاقه.
وقال ترمب في مقابلة مع «إن بي سي نيوز»: «ضربنا إيران بقوة شديدة الليلة الماضية، ومضيق هرمز مفتوح أمام الملاحة التجارية»، مضيفاً: «كان لدينا اتفاق مع الإيرانيين أمس وتنازلوا عن كل شيء ثم فجأة بعد ساعتين ضربوا سفينة بمسيّرة».
ونقلت صحيفة «وول ستريت جورنال» عن مسؤولين عسكريين أمريكيين قولهم إن السفينة التي كانت ترفع علم قبرص استُهدفت بصاروخ وطائرات مسيّرة في الهجوم الإيراني، متوعدين بمحاسبة إيران.
وأشار المسؤولون إلى أن إيران استهدفت أيضاً سفناً أخرى عابرة للمضيق وأن الولايات المتحدة أسقطت عدداً من الطائرات المسيّرة، مبينين أن نطاق الغارات الأمريكية كان أوسع بكثير من جولات الأسبوع الماضي. وأوضحوا أن الهجمات توجه رسالة مفادها بأن الولايات المتحدة ستُحاسب إيران على مهاجمة السفن التجارية.
بدورها، قالت باكستان إن التطورات الأخيرة تسهم في زيادة حدة التوترات الإقليمية بقلق بالغ، مؤكدة في بيان صادر عن وزارة الخارجية دعمها الراسخ لسيادة جميع الدول الشقيقة في المنطقة ووحدة أراضيها.
ودعت باكستان جميع الأطراف إلى التحلي بضبط النفس، واتخاذ خطوات فورية نحو خفض التصعيد، والالتزام بالتعهدات الواردة في مذكرة التفاهم الموقعة في إسلام آباد. كما أكدت باكستان التزامها بمواصلة تقديم كل أشكال الدعم من أجل تحقيق سلام واستقرار دائمين في المنطقة من خلال الحوار والدبلوماسية.
جاء ذلك في الوقت الذي أعلنت وزارة الخارجية الهندية فقدان مواطن هندي إثر هجوم استهدف السفينة التجارية «جي إف إس غالاكسي» قبالة سواحل سلطنة عُمان في وقت سابق اليوم.
ونددت الوزارة بالهجوم، موضحة أنه تم إنقاذ حتى الآن 10 من أصل 11 مواطناً هندياً كانوا على متن السفينة.
من جهة أخرى، قالت وزيرة خارجية كندا أنيتا أناند إن الهجمات الإيرانية المتواصلة على السفن العابرة لمضيق هرمز انتهاك للقانون الدولي، معلنة وقوف بلادها إلى جانب دول الخليج في مواجهة موجة جديدة من الاعتداءات الإيرانية.
While Pakistan called for de-escalation and adherence to the Islamabad understandings, U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed today (Sunday) that the Strait of Hormuz is open, after Iran claimed to have closed it.
Trump said in an interview with NBC News: "We hit Iran very hard last night, and the Strait of Hormuz is open for commercial navigation," adding: "We had an agreement with the Iranians yesterday, and they conceded everything, then suddenly, two hours later, they hit a ship with a drone."
The Wall Street Journal reported that U.S. military officials stated that the ship flying the Cypriot flag was targeted by a missile and drones in the Iranian attack, threatening to hold Iran accountable.
Officials indicated that Iran also targeted other vessels transiting the strait and that the United States shot down several drones, noting that the scope of the U.S. strikes was much broader than last week's rounds. They explained that the attacks send a message that the United States will hold Iran accountable for attacking commercial ships.
For its part, Pakistan expressed deep concern that recent developments contribute to escalating regional tensions, affirming in a statement from the Foreign Ministry its steadfast support for the sovereignty of all brotherly countries in the region and their territorial integrity.
Pakistan called on all parties to exercise restraint, take immediate steps toward de-escalation, and adhere to the commitments outlined in the memorandum of understanding signed in Islamabad. Pakistan also reaffirmed its commitment to continue providing all forms of support to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region through dialogue and diplomacy.
This came at a time when the Indian Ministry of External Affairs announced the loss of an Indian citizen following an attack on the commercial vessel "GFS Galaxy" off the coast of Oman earlier today.
The ministry condemned the attack, stating that 10 out of 11 Indian citizens aboard the ship have been rescued so far.
On another note, Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand stated that the ongoing Iranian attacks on vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz are a violation of international law, announcing her country's support for Gulf nations in facing a new wave of Iranian assaults.
