في أزمة جديدة بين إسرائيل والاتحاد الأوروبي، أعلن وزير الخارجية الإسرائيلي، جدعون ساعر، اليوم (الخميس)، قطع كل الاتصالات مع مسؤولة السياسة الخارجية في الاتحاد الأوروبي، كايا كالاس.
وأوضح ساعر أن القرار جاء بسبب ما وصفه بتصريحات حديثة نُسبت إلى كالاس قارنت فيها إسرائيل بجنوب أفريقيا خلال عهد الفصل العنصري.
في الوقت ذاته، ردت كايا كالاس على تصريحات وزير الخارجية الإسرائيلي، بتأكيدها التزام التكتل بعلاقة بناءة مع تل أبيب.
وخاطبت كالاس على منصة «إكس» ساعر بالقول: «أقدر حوارنا وتواصلنا، وأنا على استعداد لمواصلة هذا النهج، باحترام وبشكل بناء»، مضيفة: الاتحاد الأوروبي يظل ملتزماً بحل الدولتين، وكررت التنديد بالمستوطنات الإسرائيلية في الضفة الغربية.
وذكر الموقع الأوروبي euractiv أن كالاس شبّهت إسرائيل بفترة الفصل العنصري في جنوب أفريقيا خلال محادثات رفيعة المستوى جرت في المكسيك.
وسافرت كالاس إلى مكسيكو سيتي خلال الفترة من 20 إلى 22 مايو ضمن وفد أوروبي رفيع المستوى شارك في قمة كبرى استضافتها المكسيك، وخلال اجتماعات مغلقة وسرية مع مسؤولين حكوميين مكسيكيين، قارنت كالاس معاملة إسرائيل للفلسطينيين في غزة والضفة الغربية بسياسات الفصل العنصري التي كانت مطبقة في جنوب أفريقيا وانتهت في أوائل تسعينيات القرن الماضي.
ونقل مسؤولون ودبلوماسيون، من بينهم مشاركون في تلك الاجتماعات، أنها تحدثت عن مدى تأثرها بزيارة قامت بها العام الماضي إلى جنوب أفريقيا، ومتحف الفصل العنصري في مدينة جوهانسبرغ، فيما لم يؤكد فريق كايا كالاس أو ينفِ المعلومات الواردة في الموقع الأوروبي.
وكان الاتحاد الأوروبي قرر في مايو الماضي مراجعة اتفاق الشراكة مع تل أبيب بسبب مخاوف حقوق الإنسان المتعلقة بالعمليات العسكرية الإسرائيلية في غزة، والعنف الاستيطاني في الضفة الغربية، واقترحت حينها كالاس خيارات عقابية تشمل تعليق الاتفاق كلياً، أو تقييد التجارة، أو فرض حظر أسلحة، أو وقف السفر بدون تأشيرة.
ورغم عدم تنفيذ هذه الإجراءات، فإن الاتحاد فرض عقوبات على مستوطنين إسرائيليين في مايو 2026 بسبب أعمال عنف في الضفة الغربية.
In a new crisis between Israel and the European Union, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar announced today (Thursday) the severing of all communications with the EU's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas.
Sa'ar explained that the decision came in response to what he described as recent statements attributed to Kallas, in which she compared Israel to South Africa during the apartheid era.
At the same time, Kaja Kallas responded to the Israeli foreign minister's statements by reaffirming the bloc's commitment to a constructive relationship with Tel Aviv.
Kallas addressed Sa'ar on the platform "X," stating: "I value our dialogue and communication, and I am ready to continue this approach, respectfully and constructively," adding: "The European Union remains committed to a two-state solution," and reiterated her condemnation of Israeli settlements in the West Bank.
The European site euractiv reported that Kallas likened Israel to the apartheid era in South Africa during high-level talks held in Mexico.
Kallas traveled to Mexico City from May 20 to 22 as part of a high-level European delegation participating in a major summit hosted by Mexico. During closed and confidential meetings with Mexican government officials, Kallas compared Israel's treatment of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank to the apartheid policies that were implemented in South Africa and ended in the early 1990s.
Officials and diplomats, including participants in those meetings, reported that she spoke about how affected she was by a visit she made last year to South Africa and the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg, while Kaja Kallas's team did not confirm or deny the information reported by the European site.
Last May, the European Union decided to review its partnership agreement with Tel Aviv due to human rights concerns related to Israeli military operations in Gaza and settler violence in the West Bank. At that time, Kallas proposed punitive options including the complete suspension of the agreement, trade restrictions, an arms embargo, or the cessation of visa-free travel.
Although these measures have not been implemented, the EU imposed sanctions on Israeli settlers in May 2026 due to acts of violence in the West Bank.
