The "Masam" project for demining in Yemen destroyed today (Wednesday) 5,926 pieces of unexploded ordnance in the Bab al-Mandab area of Taiz Governorate in western Yemen, as part of its efforts to protect civilians and clear Yemeni land of mines and hazardous munitions.
The project confirmed in a statement that the operation was carried out by the second special missions team of "Masam," after completing transportation, preparation, and security procedures according to the approved standards for the safe disposal of munitions and explosives.
The materials that were destroyed included 116 assorted shells, 2,722 assorted fuses, 2,971 assorted rounds, 42 anti-personnel mines, 56 anti-tank mines, two hand grenades, and eight explosive devices, in addition to four assorted rockets, bringing the total disposed of to 5,926 pieces of war remnants.
The leader of the second special missions team in the "Masam" project, Engineer Adeb Rajab, stated that this quantity was collected by the project teams operating in the western coastal areas of Yemen over the past two months, as part of ongoing survey and clearance operations in areas contaminated with mines and unexploded ordnance, explaining that the disposal site was chosen by "Masam" experts.
He pointed out that the area complies with international standards for the safe disposal of war remnants, ensuring that the operation is conducted with the highest safety levels.
He noted that these remnants posed a direct threat to civilian lives, especially since many of them had deteriorated due to weather factors and rust, increasing the likelihood of random explosions.
Rajab confirmed that disposing of them contributes to reducing the risks faced by residents in the liberated areas.
The "Masam" Saudi project continues to carry out demining and removal of unexploded ordnance in various Yemeni governorates, aiming to protect civilians and secure lands, roads, and grazing and agricultural areas from the dangers posed by remnants.
