أقرت حركة حماس، اليوم (الأربعاء)، بمقتل القيادي في كتائب القسام محمَّد عودة، مؤكدة أنه قتل مع زوجته واثنين من أبنائه إثر غارة إسرائيلية استهدفت بناية سكنية بمدينة غزَّة (الثلاثاء).
وأشارت حماس إلى أن عودة من الرَّعيل الأوَّل لمؤسِّسي الحركة، معتبرة أن اغتياله محاولة إسرائيلية يأسة.
وكان وزير الدفاع الإسرائيلي يسرائيل كاتس، أعلن في وقت سابق اليوم مقتله، مؤكداً أنه القائد الرابع للجناح العسكري لحماس في قطاع غزة.
وهدّد كاتس بتنفيذ الهجرة الطوعية من القطاع بالتوقيت والطريقة المناسبين، موضحاً إن جميع قادة حماس محكوم عليهم بالإعدام أينما وجدوا.
وأشار إلى أن إسرائيل تعهدت بأن حماس لن تحكم غزة لا مدنياً ولا عسكرياً، وهذا ما سيحصل، على حد زعمه.
في غضون ذلك، انتقد السيناتور الأمريكي كريس فان هولين موقف الحزب الديمقراطي من إسرائيل، داعياً إلى وقف الدعم العسكري لها ما لم تلتزم الحكومة الإسرائيلية بخطة زمنية واضحة لتنفيذ حل الدولتين، وذلك في مقال بصحيفة «نيويورك تايمز».
واتهم هولين الحزبين الديمقراطي، والجمهوري بالإخفاق في التعامل مع المسألة الإسرائيلية الفلسطينية؛ بسبب ما وصفه بـ«الدعم الانعكاسي وغير المشروط» من جانب واشنطن للحكومات الإسرائيلية، رغم تعارض سياساتها مع المصالح والقيم الأمريكية.
وشدّد على ضرورة إحداث تغيير جذري في السياسة الأمريكية تجاه إسرائيل، يقوم على استخدام النفوذ الأمريكي لفرض حل الدولتين، وربط المساعدات العسكرية الأمريكية بشروط سياسية واضحة، تشمل إنهاء الاحتلال ووقف السياسات التي تعرقل إقامة دولة فلسطينية.
Hamas movement acknowledged today (Wednesday) the death of the leader of the Al-Qassam Brigades, Muhammad Awda, confirming that he was killed along with his wife and two of his children in an Israeli airstrike that targeted a residential building in Gaza City (Tuesday).
Hamas indicated that Awda was from the first generation of the movement's founders, considering his assassination an Israeli desperate attempt.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced earlier today his death, confirming that he was the fourth commander of Hamas's military wing in the Gaza Strip.
Katz threatened to carry out voluntary migration from the strip at the appropriate time and manner, clarifying that all Hamas leaders are sentenced to death wherever they are found.
He pointed out that Israel has pledged that Hamas will not govern Gaza, neither civilly nor militarily, and that this is what will happen, according to his claim.
Meanwhile, U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen criticized the Democratic Party's stance on Israel, calling for an end to military support unless the Israeli government commits to a clear timeline for implementing a two-state solution, in an article in the "New York Times."
Hollen accused both the Democratic and Republican parties of failing to address the Israeli-Palestinian issue due to what he described as "unconditional and reflexive support" from Washington for Israeli governments, despite their policies contradicting American interests and values.
He emphasized the necessity of making a radical change in American policy towards Israel, based on using American influence to impose a two-state solution and linking U.S. military aid to clear political conditions, including ending the occupation and halting policies that obstruct the establishment of a Palestinian state.
