حكمت محكمة عسكرية صينية، اليوم (الخميس)، بالإعدام مع وقف التنفيذ بحق وزيري الدفاع السابقين، لي شانج فو، ووي فنج خه، بعد إدانتهما بتهم تتعلق بالرشوة.
ونقلت وكالة أنباء الصين الرسمية «شينخوا» عن المحكمة، تأكيدها أن إن وي فنج خه أُدين بتلقي رشى، وصدر بحقه حكم بالإعدام مع وقف التنفيذ لمدة عامين، كما أُدين لي شانج فو بتلقي وتقديم رشى، وحكم عليه بالعقوبة نفسها.
وشغل وي فنج خه منصب وزير الدفاع في الفترة بين 2018 و2023، قبل أن يخلفه لي شانج فو، الذي لم يمكث في المنصب سوى عدة أشهر، قبل إقالته في أكتوبر 2023، كما أقيل الوزيران السابقان من الحزب الشيوعي الحاكم في عام 2024 بتهمة مخالفات جسيمة للانضباط، ضمن حملة أطلقها الرئيس الصيني شي جين بينج لتطهير المؤسسة العسكرية والدفاعية من كبار المسؤولين المتهمين بـ«الفساد».
وتخفف الصين حكم الإعدام مع وقف التنفيذ عادة إلى السجن المؤبد، إذا لم يرتكب المحكوم عليه جرائم خلال فترة وقف التنفيذ.
وكانت وزارة الدفاع الصينية قالت في يناير الماضي إن الحزب الشيوعي الحاكم، قرر فتح تحقيق مع مسؤولين عسكريين كبيرين هما تشانج يو شيا، وليو تشن لي، للاشتباه في ارتكابهما انتهاكات خطيرة تتعلق بالانضباط والقانون، واصفة حملة الرئيس الصيني للتحقيق مع أبرز جنرالاته، على غرار الجنرال تشانج يوشيا، بأنها أكبر حملة تطهير يشهدها الجيش الصيني منذ نحو نصف قرن.
A Chinese military court ruled today (Thursday) to impose a suspended death sentence on former defense ministers Li Shangfu and Wei Fenghe after they were convicted of bribery charges.
The official Chinese news agency "Xinhua" reported that the court confirmed Wei Fenghe was convicted of accepting bribes and was sentenced to a suspended death sentence for two years. Li Shangfu was also convicted of receiving and offering bribes and received the same sentence.
Wei Fenghe served as Minister of Defense from 2018 to 2023, before being succeeded by Li Shangfu, who remained in the position for only a few months before being dismissed in October 2023. The two former ministers were also expelled from the ruling Communist Party in 2024 for serious disciplinary violations, as part of a campaign launched by Chinese President Xi Jinping to purge the military and defense establishment of senior officials accused of "corruption."
China typically commutes a suspended death sentence to life imprisonment if the convicted person does not commit any crimes during the suspension period.
In January, the Chinese Ministry of Defense stated that the ruling Communist Party decided to open an investigation into two senior military officials, Zhang Youxia and Liu Chenli, for suspected serious violations related to discipline and law, describing the president's campaign to investigate his top generals, including General Zhang Youxia, as the largest purge the Chinese military has seen in nearly half a century.
