دعت رئيسة المفوضية الأوروبية أورسولا فون دير لاين الولايات المتحدة وإيران إلى الجلوس فورًا على طاولة المفاوضات، بهدف إنهاء الإغلاق الفعلي لمضيق مضيق هرمز ووقف التصعيد العسكري في الشرق الأوسط.
ضرورة إنهاء الحرب
وأكدت فون دير لاين، أن محاولات إيران تعطيل هذا الممر الحيوي، عبر استهداف سفن تجارية غير مسلحة وبنى تحتية حساسة، أمر يجب إدانته، مشددة على ضرورة إنهاء الحرب لتفادي مزيد من الاضطرابات في الاقتصاد العالمي، خصوصا أن نحو 20% من إمدادات النفط العالمية تمر عبر المضيق.
وخلال زيارتها إلى أستراليا لتوقيع اتفاقية تجارة حرة جديدة، قالت إن الوضع بات حرجًا بالنسبة لأمن الطاقة عالميًا، مضيفة: يجب على إيران وقف التهديدات فورًا، بما في ذلك زرع الألغام والهجمات بالطائرات المسيّرة والصواريخ، وأي محاولات لعرقلة الملاحة التجارية.
وفي خطابها أمام البرلمان الأسترالي، حذّرت من أن المسافات الجغرافية لم تعد كافية لحماية الدول من تداعيات الحروب، مشيرة إلى أن العالم يمر بمرحلة قاسية ومضطربة تتلاشى فيها اليقينيات السابقة.
وشبّهت التداعيات الاقتصادية الحالية بتلك التي شهدتها أوروبا عقب الغزو الروسي لأوكرانيا 2022، مؤكدة أن ارتفاع أسعار الطاقة يفرض على الدول المتقدمة تنويع مصادرها وتعزيز استقلالها.
كما دعت إلى تعزيز التعاون بين الاتحاد الأوروبي وأستراليا لمواجهة التحديات الاقتصادية العالمية، بما في ذلك نموذج النمو القائم على التصدير في الصين.
وأضافت: نحن في سباق نحو كهربة اقتصاداتنا، وهذا ما ستحاسبنا عليه الأجيال القادمة، مشددة على أهمية الاستثمار في الطاقة المحلية والمتجددة لتقليل الاعتماد على الخارج.
تفاصيل الاتفاق التجاري
وتشمل اتفاقية التجارة الحرة بين الاتحاد الأوروبي وأستراليا إعفاء نحو 98% من الصادرات الأسترالية من الرسوم الجمركية عند دخولها السوق الأوروبية، ما يمنح المنتجين وصولًا أوسع إلى أكثر من 450 مليون مستهلك.
كما تسمح الاتفاقية للمنتجين الأستراليين بالاستمرار في استخدام بعض المسميات الأوروبية الشهيرة مثل بروسكو وفيتا، مع منح المزارعين مزايا تفضيلية في تصدير اللحوم، وإلغاء الرسوم على منتجات الألبان والبستنة والسلع الصناعية.
ومن المتوقع أن تنخفض أسعار العديد من المنتجات الأوروبية في أستراليا، مثل النبيذ والشوكولاتة والمكرونة، إضافة إلى قطع غيار السيارات والمعدات.
كذلك، اتفق الطرفان على تعزيز التعاون في مجال المعادن الحيوية، وإلغاء الرسوم الجمركية على السلع البيئية، بما في ذلك تقنيات الطاقة المتجددة والبطاريات.
ورغم ذلك، لا تشمل الاتفاقية آليات لضبط الكربون على الحدود أو بنودًا خاصة بإزالة الغابات.
تعاون أمني وعلمي متزايد
من جانبه، أكد رئيس الوزراء الأسترالي أنتوني ألبانيزي أن تعزيز التعاون مع الاتحاد الأوروبي سيساعد في مواجهة التحديات الجيوسياسية، مشيرًا إلى توقيع اتفاق جديد في مجالات الدفاع والأمن يشمل الصناعات الدفاعية، والأمن البحري، ومكافحة الإرهاب والجرائم السيبرانية.
كما وافقت أستراليا على بدء مفاوضات للانضمام إلى برنامج أفق أوروبا، ما يعزز التعاون العلمي والتكنولوجي بين الجانبين.
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, called on the United States and Iran to immediately sit down at the negotiating table, aiming to end the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz and to halt military escalation in the Middle East.
The Necessity of Ending the War
Von der Leyen emphasized that Iran's attempts to disrupt this vital corridor by targeting unarmed commercial ships and sensitive infrastructure must be condemned, stressing the need to end the war to avoid further disruptions in the global economy, especially since about 20% of global oil supplies pass through the strait.
During her visit to Australia to sign a new free trade agreement, she stated that the situation has become critical for global energy security, adding: Iran must immediately stop the threats, including laying mines and attacks with drones and missiles, as well as any attempts to obstruct commercial navigation.
In her speech before the Australian Parliament, she warned that geographical distances are no longer sufficient to protect countries from the repercussions of wars, noting that the world is going through a harsh and tumultuous phase where previous certainties are fading.
She likened the current economic repercussions to those experienced by Europe following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, asserting that rising energy prices compel developed countries to diversify their sources and enhance their independence.
She also called for strengthening cooperation between the European Union and Australia to address global economic challenges, including the export-driven growth model in China.
She added: We are in a race towards electrifying our economies, and this is what future generations will hold us accountable for, emphasizing the importance of investing in local and renewable energy to reduce dependence on foreign sources.
Details of the Trade Agreement
The free trade agreement between the European Union and Australia includes the exemption of about 98% of Australian exports from tariffs upon entering the European market, granting producers broader access to over 450 million consumers.
The agreement also allows Australian producers to continue using some well-known European designations such as Prosecco and Feta, while granting farmers preferential advantages in exporting meat, and eliminating tariffs on dairy, horticultural, and industrial goods.
Prices for many European products in Australia are expected to decrease, such as wine, chocolate, and pasta, in addition to auto parts and equipment.
Additionally, both parties agreed to enhance cooperation in the field of critical minerals and to eliminate tariffs on environmental goods, including renewable energy technologies and batteries.
However, the agreement does not include mechanisms for carbon border adjustments or specific provisions for deforestation.
Increased Security and Scientific Cooperation
For his part, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed that enhancing cooperation with the European Union will help address geopolitical challenges, noting the signing of a new agreement in the fields of defense and security that includes defense industries, maritime security, counter-terrorism, and cybercrime.
Australia has also agreed to begin negotiations to join the Horizon Europe program, which will enhance scientific and technological cooperation between the two sides.
