كشفت وسائل إعلام أمريكية أن عناصر من أجهزة الاستخبارات الكوبية تتولى حماية الرئيس الفنزويلي نيكولاس مادورو بشكل مكثف، وسط تصاعد التوترات بين كاراكاس وواشنطن، في وقت أعلنت فيه القوات الأمريكية احتجاز ناقلة نفط ثالثة في البحر الكاريبي، أمس الأحد.
وأفصحت صحيفة «وول ستريت جورنال»، أن قوات الاستخبارات المضادة الكوبية تحيط مادورو بإجراءات أمنية مشددة على مدار الساعة، مع منع الأشخاص في دائرته القريبة من حمل الهواتف أو أي أجهزة إلكترونية.
ونقلت الصحيفة عن الدبلوماسي الأمريكي السابق توماس أ. شانون قوله: «إنهم يعتنون جيداً بنيكولاس مادورو ومن قد يخلفونه مباشرة.. الكوبيون لن يختفوا بهدوء».
وحذّر مراقبون من أن احتجاز ناقلات النفط قد يؤدي إلى أزمة حادة في كوبا، التي تعتمد بشكل كبير على النفط الفنزويلي. وأفادت تقارير غربية بأن كوبا كثفت من حضورها الأمني في فنزويلا أخيراً، بالتزامن مع انتقادات الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب لحكومة الرئيسي الفنزويلي مادورو، وزيادة الوجود العسكري الأمريكي في المنطقة، وإعلان الحصار البحري.
وأفادت وكالة «بلومبيرغ»، بأن القوات الأمريكية صادرت في وقت سابق ناقلة تحمل أكثر من مليون برميل نفط كانت متجهة إلى كوبا، وتم احتجاز ناقلة «بيلا 1» التي ترفع علم بنما أثناء توجهها إلى فنزويلا لتحميل النفط.
وأكد خبراء ومختصون أن شبكة الطاقة الكوبية تقف على حافة الانهيار مع تزايد انقطاعات الكهرباء إذا توقفت الإمدادات النفطية.
American media outlets have revealed that elements of the Cuban intelligence services are intensively protecting Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro amid rising tensions between Caracas and Washington, at a time when U.S. forces announced the seizure of a third oil tanker in the Caribbean yesterday, Sunday.
The Wall Street Journal disclosed that Cuban counterintelligence forces are surrounding Maduro with strict security measures around the clock, preventing people in his close circle from carrying phones or any electronic devices.
The newspaper quoted former U.S. diplomat Thomas A. Shannon as saying, "They are taking good care of Nicolás Maduro and whoever might succeed him directly... the Cubans will not disappear quietly."
Observers have warned that the seizure of oil tankers could lead to a severe crisis in Cuba, which heavily relies on Venezuelan oil. Western reports indicated that Cuba has intensified its security presence in Venezuela recently, coinciding with U.S. President Donald Trump's criticisms of Maduro's government, the increase of U.S. military presence in the region, and the announcement of a naval blockade.
Bloomberg reported that U.S. forces earlier seized a tanker carrying more than a million barrels of oil that was headed to Cuba, and detained the "Bella 1" tanker flying the Panamanian flag while it was en route to Venezuela to load oil.
Experts and specialists confirmed that the Cuban energy network is on the brink of collapse with increasing power outages if oil supplies are halted.
