حذّر الرئيس البرازيلي لويس إيناسيو لولا دا سيلفا، اليوم (السبت)، من أن أي تدخل عسكري في فنزويلا سيقود إلى «كارثة إنسانية» تتجاوز حدود المنطقة، معتبراً أن التصعيد الأمريكي ضد كراكاس يهدد استقرار أمريكا الجنوبية بأكملها.
تحذير برازيلي صريح
جاءت تصريحات لولا خلال مشاركته في قمة تجمع «ميركوسور» بمدينة فوز دو إيغواسو جنوب البرازيل، حيث شدد على أن اللجوء إلى الخيار العسكري يمثل «سابقة خطيرة قد تغيّر شكل العالم»، داعياً إلى ضبط النفس وتغليب الحلول السياسية.
شبح تدخل خارجي
وقارن الرئيس البرازيلي الوضع الراهن بحرب الفوكلاند التي اندلعت قبل أكثر من أربعة عقود بين الأرجنتين وبريطانيا، قائلاً إن القارة الأمريكية الجنوبية «تواجه مجدداً شبح الوجود العسكري لقوة خارجية»، في إشارة إلى التدخلات الدولية في شؤون المنطقة.
تصعيد أمريكي جديد
وتأتي هذه التحذيرات في وقت تشهد العلاقات بين واشنطن وكراكاس تصعيداً لافتاً، بعدما أصدر الرئيس دونالد ترمب قراراً بحظر كامل على ناقلات النفط الخاضعة للعقوبات الأمريكية من الدخول إلى فنزويلا أو مغادرتها، في خطوة تهدف إلى تشديد الخناق الاقتصادي على حكومة الرئيس نيكولاس مادورو.
النفط في قلب الأزمة
ويركز القرار الأمريكي على قطاع النفط، الذي يمثل المصدر الرئيسي للدخل في فنزويلا، وسط مساعٍ لزيادة الضغط السياسي والاقتصادي على كراكاس دون إعلان صريح عن خيارات عسكرية.
دعوات لضبط النفس
وكان لولا، إلى جانب الرئيسة المكسيكية كلاوديا شينباوم، قد دعا في وقت سابق من الأسبوع إلى التهدئة وتجنب التصعيد، إلا أن الرئيس البرازيلي عاد ليؤكد في قمة «ميركوسور» أن أي مواجهة عسكرية ستترك «تداعيات كارثية» على المنطقة بأسرها.
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva warned today (Saturday) that any military intervention in Venezuela would lead to a "humanitarian disaster" that would exceed the region's borders, considering that the U.S. escalation against Caracas threatens the stability of all of South America.
Clear Brazilian Warning
Lula's statements came during his participation in the "Mercosur" summit in Foz do Iguaçu, southern Brazil, where he emphasized that resorting to military options represents a "dangerous precedent that could change the shape of the world," calling for restraint and prioritizing political solutions.
The Specter of Foreign Intervention
The Brazilian president compared the current situation to the Falklands War that erupted more than four decades ago between Argentina and Britain, stating that the South American continent "is once again facing the specter of military presence from a foreign power," referring to international interventions in the region's affairs.
New U.S. Escalation
These warnings come at a time when relations between Washington and Caracas are witnessing a notable escalation, after President Donald Trump issued a decision to impose a complete ban on oil tankers subject to U.S. sanctions from entering or leaving Venezuela, in a move aimed at tightening the economic noose around President Nicolás Maduro's government.
Oil at the Heart of the Crisis
The U.S. decision focuses on the oil sector, which represents the main source of income for Venezuela, amid efforts to increase political and economic pressure on Caracas without a clear declaration of military options.
Calls for Restraint
Lula, along with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, had earlier in the week called for de-escalation and avoidance of tensions, but the Brazilian president reiterated at the "Mercosur" summit that any military confrontation would have "catastrophic repercussions" for the entire region.
