يوجه الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب خطابا إلى الأمة، مساء اليوم (الأربعاء)، للإشادة بسجله في آخر عامه الرئاسي الأول على الرغم من تراجع شعبيته بسبب الأوضاع الاقتصادية.
عام «جيدا جدا»
وأعلن ترمب أنه سيوجه خطابا إلى الأمة عبر التلفزيون، واصفا عامه الأول بأنه كان «جيدا جدا» للولايات المتحدة منذ عودته إلى السلطة في يناير الماضي.
وكتب ترمب أمس (الثلاثاء) عبر منصته «تروث سوشيال» موجها خطابه إلى مواطنيه «أيها الأمريكيون: سأوجه خطابا إلى الأمة، مباشرة من البيت الأبيض، عند الساعة التاسعة مساء بتوقيت الساحل الشرقي. أتطلع إلى لقائكم حينها»، مضيفا «لقد كان عاما رائعا لبلدنا، والأفضل لم يأت بعد!».
وقالت المتحدثة باسم البيت الأبيض كارولين ليفيت لقناة «فوكس نيوز»: «إن ترمب سيلقي خطابا للأمة حول إنجازاته التاريخية هذا العام، وسيقدم لمحة عن بعض القرارات التي ستُتخذ العام القادم»، وأضافت أن الخطاب سيركز على الهجرة والاقتصاد.
السياسات الاقتصادية
وتتناقض النظرة الإيجابية التي يحاول أن يعكسها الرئيس الأمريكي والبيت الأبيض مع المخاوف التي يعبّر عنها الأمريكيون بشأن غلاء المعيشة بحسب استطلاعات الرأي.
وتعتمد السياسات الاقتصادية الأمريكية في معظمها، على الرسوم الجمركية، ما يثير قلق الجمهوريين قبل أقل من عام على انتخابات التجديد النصفي للكونغرس.
وأظهر استطلاع جديد أجرته «رويترز وإبسوس» أن شعبية الرئيس الأمريكي انخفضت في الأيام القليلة الماضية إلى أدنى مستوياتها تقريبا في ولايته الحالية مع استياء الناخبين المنتمين للحزب الجمهوري من طريقة تعامله مع الاقتصاد.
وبيّن الاستطلاع الذي استمر 3 أيام، واختُتم الأحد الماضي، أن 39% من البالغين يوافقون على أداء ترمب في منصبه، انخفاضا من 41% في وقت سابق من ديسمبر الجاري، وعلى بعد نقطة واحدة من 38% في منتصف نوفمبر الماضي، وهي أدنى شعبية لترمب هذا العام.
الإغلاق الحكومي
وعاد الرئيس الجمهوري إلى السلطة في يناير الماضي، وكانت شعبيته تبلغ حينها 47%، لكنها تراجعت منذ ذلك الحين، خصوصا في ما يتعلق بأسلوب إدارته للاقتصاد.
وعطل الإغلاق الحكومي الأحدث جمع البيانات عن الاقتصاد الأمريكي، لكنّ عددا من الاقتصاديين يعتقدون أن أرباب العمل تراجعوا عن التوظيف بسبب ما وصفه البعض بالصدمة من الرسوم الجمركية التي فرضها ترمب على الواردات.
وقال 33% فقط من البالغين في الولايات المتحدة إنهم يوافقون على كيفية تعامل ترمب مع الاقتصاد، وهو أدنى تقييم للرئيس في هذا الشأن هذا العام.
وسبق أن عبر الرئيس ترمب عن انزعاجه من استطلاعات الرأي، وكتب على شبكته الاجتماعية «تروث سوشيال»: «متى ستعكس استطلاعات الرأي عظمة أمريكا اليوم؟ متى سيُقال أخيرا إنني صنعتُ، من دون تضخم، ربما أفضل اقتصاد في تاريخ بلدنا؟ متى سيفهم الناس ما الذي يجري؟».
U.S. President Donald Trump will address the nation this evening (Wednesday) to praise his record in his first presidential year, despite a decline in his popularity due to economic conditions.
A "Very Good" Year
Trump announced that he will deliver a televised address to the nation, describing his first year as "very good" for the United States since returning to power last January.
He wrote yesterday (Tuesday) on his platform "Truth Social," addressing his fellow citizens, "Dear Americans: I will deliver a speech to the nation, live from the White House, at 9 PM Eastern Time. I look forward to seeing you then," adding, "It has been a wonderful year for our country, and the best is yet to come!"
White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt told Fox News, "Trump will deliver a national address about his historic achievements this year and will provide a glimpse into some decisions that will be made next year," adding that the speech will focus on immigration and the economy.
Economic Policies
The positive outlook that the U.S. President and the White House are trying to convey contrasts with the concerns expressed by Americans regarding the cost of living, according to opinion polls.
U.S. economic policies largely rely on tariffs, which raises concerns among Republicans with less than a year to go before the midterm elections.
A new poll conducted by Reuters/Ipsos showed that the President's popularity has dropped in recent days to nearly its lowest level in his current term, with Republican voters dissatisfied with his handling of the economy.
The three-day poll, which concluded last Sunday, indicated that 39% of adults approve of Trump's performance in office, down from 41% earlier in December, and just one point away from 38% in mid-November, which is Trump's lowest popularity this year.
Government Shutdown
The Republican president returned to power last January with a popularity rating of 47%, but it has declined since then, particularly regarding his management of the economy.
The latest government shutdown disrupted data collection on the U.S. economy, but several economists believe that employers have pulled back on hiring due to what some have described as a shock from the tariffs imposed by Trump on imports.
Only 33% of adults in the United States said they approve of how Trump is handling the economy, marking the lowest rating for the president in this regard this year.
Trump has previously expressed his frustration with opinion polls, writing on his social network "Truth Social": "When will the polls reflect the greatness of America today? When will it finally be said that I created, without inflation, perhaps the best economy in the history of our country? When will people understand what is happening?"
