كشف مسؤولون عسكريون إسرائيليون وأمريكيون، أن الجيش الأمريكي شرع منذ أيام في تشغيل طائرات استطلاع مسيّرة فوق قطاع غزة، لتثبيت اتفاق وقف إطلاق النار، وضمان عدم خرقه من قبل إسرائيل أو حماس.
ونقلت صحيفة «نيويورك تايمز»، عن مسؤولين في الجيش الإسرائيلي ومسؤول في وزارة الدفاع الأمريكية، قولهم: إن تلك الطائرات التي تراقب كافة الأنشطة على الأرض في غزة، استُخدمت بموافقة إسرائيل.
وأفاد المسؤولون بأن مهمات الاستطلاع تُنفذ لدعم مهمات مركز التنسيق المدني-العسكري الجديد في جنوب تل أبيب، والذي أنشأه الجيش الأمريكي الأسبوع الماضي، لمراقبة وقف إطلاق النار وتوزيع المساعدات الإنسانية.
يذكر أن الجيش الأمريكي استخدم سابقًا الطائرات المسيّرة فوق غزة للمساعدة في تحديد مواقع تواجد الأسرى الإسرائيليين الذين احتجزتهم حماس في السابع من أكتوبر 2023، إلا أن هذه الجهود الاستطلاعية الأخيرة تشير إلى أن المسؤولين الأمريكيين يرغبون في الحصول على فهم مستقل لما يحدث داخل القطاع الفلسطيني، بعيدًا عن الرواية الإسرائيلية.
من جانبه أعرب دبلوماسي أمريكي سابق ومسؤول دفاعي، إلى جانب بعض المسؤولين الإسرائيليين، عن دهشتهم من مهمات الاستطلاع الأمريكية في غزة، بالنظر إلى العلاقات العسكرية الوثيقة بين البلدين. وقال السفير السابق لدى إسرائيل دانيال بي. شابيرو: «هذا شكل متقدم جدًا من المراقبة الأمريكية في جبهة تعتبرها إسرائيل تهديدًا نشطًا»، وفق الصحيفة الأمريكية.
وأضاف أنه «لو كانت هناك شفافية كاملة وثقة تامة بين إسرائيل والولايات المتحدة، لما كانت هناك حاجة لهذا النوع من المراقبة، لكن من الواضح أن الولايات المتحدة تريد القضاء على أي احتمال لسوء الفهم».
يذكر أنه خلال المراحل الأولى من الحرب الإسرائيلية على غزة، استخدمت الولايات المتحدة طائرات MQ-9 Reaper المسيّرة للمساهمة في جمع معلومات عن أماكن تواجد الأسرى الإسرائيليين، كما شاركت المعلومات التي جمعتها تلك الطائرات مع إسرائيل.
Israeli and American military officials revealed that the U.S. military has begun operating reconnaissance drones over the Gaza Strip in recent days to reinforce the ceasefire agreement and ensure it is not violated by either Israel or Hamas.
The New York Times reported that officials from the Israeli army and a U.S. Department of Defense official stated that these drones, which monitor all activities on the ground in Gaza, were used with Israel's approval.
Officials indicated that reconnaissance missions are being carried out to support the new civil-military coordination center established by the U.S. military last week in southern Tel Aviv, aimed at monitoring the ceasefire and distributing humanitarian aid.
It is worth noting that the U.S. military previously used drones over Gaza to help locate the whereabouts of Israeli captives held by Hamas since October 7, 2023. However, these recent reconnaissance efforts suggest that U.S. officials seek an independent understanding of what is happening inside the Palestinian territory, away from the Israeli narrative.
For his part, a former U.S. diplomat and defense official, along with some Israeli officials, expressed their astonishment at the American reconnaissance missions in Gaza, considering the close military relations between the two countries. Former ambassador to Israel Daniel B. Shapiro said, "This is a very advanced form of American surveillance in a front that Israel considers an active threat," according to the American newspaper.
He added, "If there were complete transparency and total trust between Israel and the United States, there would be no need for this kind of surveillance, but it is clear that the United States wants to eliminate any possibility of misunderstanding."
It is noted that during the early stages of the Israeli war on Gaza, the United States used MQ-9 Reaper drones to assist in gathering information about the locations of Israeli captives, and also shared the information collected by those drones with Israel.
