وكان مفوض إدارة الأغذية والعقاقير مارتي ماكاري، قال في وقت سابق إن الإدارة تتحرى أمر هذه الوفيات بين الشبان.
وأخبر كبير المسؤولين الطبيين والعلميين في الإدارة فيناي براساد الموظفين في مذكرة الشهر الماضي، أن لقاحات «كوفيد 19» ربما ساهمت في وفاة ما لا يقل عن 10 أطفال بسبب التهاب القلب، وأعلن عن خطط لتشديد الرقابة على اللقاحات. ولم تكشف المذكرة عن الحالة الصحية للأطفال أو الشركات المصنعة للقاحات المعنية.
واستندت النتائج، التي لم تنشر في دورية طبية تخضع لمراجعة النظراء، إلى تحليل أولي لما مجموعه 96 حالة وفاة بين عامي 2021 و2024.
وكررت شركة «موديرنا» بيانها السابق بأنه لا توجد مخاوف جديدة أو غير معلنة تتعلق بالسلامة لدى الأطفال أو النساء الحوامل، فيما يتعلق بلقاح كورونا القائم على الحمض النووي الريبي المرسال «سبايكفاكس».
وبالمثل أكدت شركة «فايزر» على سلامة وفعالية لقاح «كوفيد 19» آخر يعتمد على الحمض النووي الريبي المرسال تسوقه مع شريكتها «بيونتيك».
وغير وزير الصحة روبرت كنيدي جونيور سياسة الحكومة بشأن لقاحات كورونا بشكل جذري، ما حد من إمكان الحصول عليها لمن يبلغون 65 عاما أو أكثر، وكذلك الذين يعانون حالات مرضية كامنة.
وكنيدي، مثل الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترامب، من المشككين في جدوى اللقاحات منذ فترة طويلة.
In a surprising move, the U.S. Department of Health announced on Tuesday that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is investigating deaths that may be linked to COVID-19 vaccines. The ambiguity surrounding the affected age groups raises concerns and questions about the safety of vaccinations and their monitoring across the United States.
The FDA Commissioner, Marty Makary, previously stated that the agency is looking into these deaths among young people.
In a memo last month, the Chief Medical and Scientific Officer of the agency, Vinay Prasad, informed staff that COVID-19 vaccines may have contributed to the deaths of at least 10 children due to myocarditis, and announced plans to tighten oversight of the vaccines. The memo did not disclose the health status of the children or the manufacturers of the vaccines involved.
The findings, which have not been published in a peer-reviewed medical journal, were based on a preliminary analysis of a total of 96 deaths between 2021 and 2024.
Moderna reiterated its previous statement that there are no new or undisclosed safety concerns regarding children or pregnant women related to the mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccine, Spikevax.
Similarly, Pfizer confirmed the safety and efficacy of another mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccine marketed in partnership with BioNTech.
Health Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr. radically changed the government's policy on COVID-19 vaccines, limiting access to those aged 65 and older, as well as those with underlying health conditions.
Kennedy, like President Donald Trump, has long been skeptical of the efficacy of vaccines.
