وسط تصاعد التوترات مع الولايات المتحدة، أعلن الرئيس الفنزويلي نيكولاس مادورو، اليوم (السبت)، أنّ خطة الدفاع ضد ما سماه «التهديدات الأمريكية» باتت مكتملة، وذلك مع نشر سفن حربية أمريكية قبالة سواحل فنزويلا.
وقال مادورو في تسجيل صوتي نُشر عبر تطبيق تليغرام: «اليوم، استكملنا جميع مناطق الدفاع المتكاملة في البلاد»، معلناً إجراء تدريبات عسكرية جديدة أطلق عليها اسم «الاستقلال 200».
اتهامات ترمب
ويتهم الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب الرئيس الفنزويلي بالضلوع المباشر في عمليات التهريب، وبتزعم كارتيل مخدرات، وهو ما ينفيه مادورو، ما زاد من المخاوف في كراكاس من سعي ترمب إلى تغيير النظام.
وأعلن ترمب الأربعاء أنّه أعطى الضوء الأخضر لوكالة الاستخبارات المركزية الأمريكية (سي آي إيه) للقيام بعمليات سرية ضد كراكاس، موضحاً أنه يدرس توجيه ضربات تستهدف كارتيلات المخدرات على أراضي فنزويلا.
تدريبات عسكرية
وأثارت تصريحات ترمب غضب مادورو الذي أمر بإجراء تدريبات عسكرية في جميع أنحاء البلاد.
ويتم تنفيذ غالبية هذه التدريبات ليلاً ولا تنتهي بتمركز قوات عسكرية بشكل دائم، فيما بثّ التلفزيون الرسمي لقطات لجنود يغادرون ثكناتهم.
وشاركت الشرطة وموظفو الحماية المدنية وأفراد في مجموعات مدنية في التدريبات التي تجريها فنزويلا.
وأعلنت واشنطن أنّ قواتها نفذت ستّ ضربات في منطقة البحر الكاريبي، في إطار ما تقول إنّها حملة لمكافحة تهريب المخدرات، وأدت هذه الضربات إلى مقتل 27 شخصاً على الأقل، كما نشرت سبع سفن حربية في منطقة الكاريبي وواحدة في خليج المكسيك.
Amid rising tensions with the United States, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced today (Saturday) that the defense plan against what he called "American threats" is now complete, coinciding with the deployment of U.S. warships off the coast of Venezuela.
Maduro stated in an audio recording published via the Telegram app: "Today, we have completed all integrated defense areas in the country," announcing new military exercises dubbed "Independence 200."
Trump's Accusations
The U.S. President Donald Trump accuses the Venezuelan president of direct involvement in smuggling operations and leading a drug cartel, which Maduro denies, increasing concerns in Caracas about Trump's intentions to change the regime.
On Wednesday, Trump announced that he had given the green light to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to conduct covert operations against Caracas, clarifying that he is considering strikes targeting drug cartels on Venezuelan territory.
Military Exercises
Trump's statements have angered Maduro, who ordered military exercises across the country.
The majority of these exercises are conducted at night and do not result in the permanent stationing of military forces, while state television aired footage of soldiers leaving their barracks.
The police, civil protection officials, and members of civil groups participated in the exercises being conducted by Venezuela.
Washington announced that its forces carried out six strikes in the Caribbean region, as part of what it claims is a campaign against drug trafficking, which resulted in the deaths of at least 27 people, and deployed seven warships in the Caribbean and one in the Gulf of Mexico.
