ذكرت صحيفة «وول ستريت جورنال»، اليوم (الأحد)، أن الرئيس الصيني شي جين بينغ يركز حالياً على تحقيق هدفه الرئيسي الذي يُعتبر «جائزة كبرى»، وهو إحداث تحول جذري في السياسة الأمريكية تجاه تايوان؛ بهدف عزل الجزيرة التي تعتبرها بكين مقاطعة متمردة.
ويأتي هذا السعي بعد عام كامل من التواصل رفيع المستوى بين الجانبين، إذ مهدت الصين الطريق لتعزيز العلاقات مع إدارة الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، الذي أعرب عن اهتمامه بإبرام اتفاق اقتصادي مع الصين خلال العام المقبل.
شرط الصين لإبرام صفقة تجارية مع أمريكا
وأفادت الصحيفة بحسب مصادر وصفتها بـ «المطلعة» على الملفات، أن «شي» يطالب بإعلان أمريكي رسمي يفيد بأن الولايات المتحدة «تعارض» استقلال تايوان صراحةً، وهو أقوى من التصريح الحالي الذي اعتمدته إدارة الرئيس جو بايدن، الذي يقتصر على أن واشنطن «لا تدعم» الاستقلال.
ويُرى هذا الطلب شرطاً رئيسياً لإبرام صفقة تجارية بين البلدين، وسط ضغوط صينية لربط القضايا الاقتصادية بالأمنية.
وأكدت المصادر أن «إعادة التوحيد» مع تايوان أصبح مبدأً أساسيّاً في «حلم الصين» الذي يروج له شي منذ عام 2012، ولا يمكن منعه بتدخلات خارجية مثل الدعم السياسي والعسكري الأمريكي لتايبيه.
توقعات لقاء شي وترمب
من جانب آخر، أشارت تقارير إلى أن لقاءً محتملاً بين شي وترمب قد يجري على هامش قمة آسيان-المحيط الهادئ (APEC) في كوريا الجنوبية، التي تبدأ في 31 أكتوبر 2025، إذ يمكن أن تُناقش هذه النقاط بشكل مباشر.
توترات بين واشنطن وبكين
تُعد هذه التطورات جزءاً من توترات أوسع بين واشنطن وبكين حول تايوان، إذ حذّر شي بايدن خلال قمة في سان فرانسيسكو عام 2023 من أن بكين ستعيد التوحيد بالقوة إذا أعلنت تايوان استقلالها بدعم خارجي.
ويأتي السعي الصيني وسط مخاوف من تصعيد عسكري، إذ أجرت الصين تدريبات عسكرية واسعة النطاق حول الجزيرة بعد تنصيب الرئيس التايواني لاي تشينغ-ته في مايو 2024، الذي شكر مؤيديه على رفض «التأثيرات الخارجية» ودعا بكين إلى وقف «الإرهاب السياسي والعسكري».
The "Wall Street Journal" reported today (Sunday) that Chinese President Xi Jinping is currently focused on achieving his primary goal, which is considered a "major prize," namely a radical shift in American policy towards Taiwan; with the aim of isolating the island that Beijing considers a rebellious province.
This pursuit comes after a full year of high-level communication between the two sides, as China paved the way to strengthen relations with the administration of American President Donald Trump, who expressed interest in reaching an economic agreement with China in the coming year.
China's Condition for a Trade Deal with America
The newspaper reported, citing sources described as "informed" on the files, that "Xi" is demanding an official American declaration stating that the United States "opposes" Taiwan's independence explicitly, which is stronger than the current statement adopted by President Joe Biden's administration, which is limited to saying that Washington "does not support" independence.
This demand is seen as a key condition for reaching a trade deal between the two countries, amid Chinese pressure to link economic issues with security ones.
Sources confirmed that "reunification" with Taiwan has become a fundamental principle in the "Chinese Dream" that Xi has promoted since 2012, and it cannot be prevented by external interventions such as American political and military support for Taipei.
Expectations for a Meeting Between Xi and Trump
On another note, reports indicated that a possible meeting between Xi and Trump could take place on the sidelines of the ASEAN-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in South Korea, which starts on October 31, 2025, where these points could be discussed directly.
Tensions Between Washington and Beijing
These developments are part of broader tensions between Washington and Beijing over Taiwan, as Xi warned Biden during a summit in San Francisco in 2023 that Beijing would reunify by force if Taiwan declared independence with external support.
This Chinese pursuit comes amid fears of military escalation, as China conducted extensive military exercises around the island following the inauguration of Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te in May 2024, who thanked his supporters for rejecting "external influences" and called on Beijing to stop "political and military terrorism."
