أعلن الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، اليوم (الاثنين) أنه سيعلن حالة طوارئ وطنية ويفرض السيطرة الفيدرالية على واشنطن العاصمة، بعد أن أكدت عمدة المدينة موريال باوزر أن شرطة المدينة لن تتعاون مع إدارة الهجرة والجمارك (ICE).
ويتعلق الأمر بتوفير معلومات حول الأفراد الذين يعيشون في الولايات المتحدة أو يدخلونها بشكل غير قانوني، بحسب وكالة «رويترز».
ويُعد تهديد ترمب إضافة إلى ما يراه النقاد تدخلاً فيدرالياً مفرطاً، مع وجود أكثر من 2,000 جندي يقومون بدوريات في المدينة.
احتجاجات ضد ترمب
وجاءت هذه التعليقات بعد أن خرج آلاف المتظاهرين إلى الشوارع هذا الشهر احتجاجاً على نشر ترمب قوات الحرس الوطني في أغسطس لإعادة إقامة النظام والأمن والسلامة العامة، بعد وصفه الجريمة بأنها وباء ينخر في العاصمة.
وقال ترمب على منصة «تروث سوشيال»: «في غضون أسابيع قليلة، أصبح المكان مزدهراً، لأول مرة منذ عقود، لا جرائم تقريباً».
وسبق أن وضع ترمب إدارة شرطة العاصمة المحلية تحت السيطرة الفيدرالية المباشرة، وأرسل قوات إنفاذ القانون الفيدرالية، بما في ذلك أعضاء من ICE، للدوريات في الشوارع، ولا يزال غير واضح متى ستنتهي مهمتهم.
ترمب والديمقراطيون اليساريون
ويلوم ترمب الديمقراطيين اليساريين المتطرفين على الضغط على باوزر لإخطار الحكومة بعدم التعاون مع ICE، مضيفاً أن توقف الشرطة عن التعاون مع ICE سيؤدي إلى عودة الجريمة بقوة.
وأضاف: «إلى شعب وأعمال واشنطن العاصمة، لا تقلقوا، أنا معكم ولن أسمح بذلك، سأعلن حالة طوارئ وطنية وأفرض السيطرة الفيدرالية إذا لزم الأمر!».
انخفاض الجريمة
سبق لباوزر أن أشادت باندفاع ترمب لقوات الإنفاذ الفيدرالية، الذي أدى إلى انخفاض حاد في الجريمة، وقد وقعت سابقاً أمراً يفتح الباب لتنسيق المدينة مع قوات الإنفاذ الفيدرالية.
ويعمل الحرس الوطني ميليشيا تابعة لمحافظي الولايات الـ50، إلا عند استدعائه للخدمة الفيدرالية. أما الحرس الوطني لواشنطن العاصمة فيرد مباشرة إلى الرئيس.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced today (Monday) that he will declare a national emergency and impose federal control over Washington, D.C., after the city's mayor, Muriel Bowser, confirmed that the city police would not cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
This concerns providing information about individuals living in or entering the United States illegally, according to Reuters.
Trump's threat adds to what critics see as excessive federal intervention, with more than 2,000 soldiers patrolling the city.
Protests Against Trump
These comments came after thousands of protesters took to the streets this month in response to Trump's deployment of National Guard troops in August to restore order, security, and public safety, after he described crime as a plague affecting the capital.
Trump said on the Truth Social platform: "In just a few weeks, the place has become prosperous, for the first time in decades, with almost no crime."
Trump had previously placed the local D.C. police department under direct federal control and sent federal law enforcement officers, including members of ICE, to patrol the streets, and it remains unclear when their mission will end.
Trump and Leftist Democrats
Trump blames extreme leftist Democrats for pressuring Bowser to notify the government not to cooperate with ICE, adding that the police's cessation of cooperation with ICE will lead to a resurgence of crime.
He added: "To the people and businesses of Washington, D.C., don't worry, I am with you and I will not allow that, I will declare a national emergency and impose federal control if necessary!"
Crime Reduction
Bowser had previously praised Trump's push for federal law enforcement, which led to a sharp decline in crime, and she had signed an order that opened the door for the city to coordinate with federal law enforcement.
The National Guard operates as a militia under the governors of the 50 states, except when called into federal service. The D.C. National Guard, however, reports directly to the president.
