أعلنت رئيسة المفوضية الأوروبية أورسولا فون دير لاين اليوم، (الإثنين) عزم المجلس الأوروبي تقديم خارطة طريق لتحسين وضعه الدفاعي في أسرع وقت وخلال السنوات الخمس القادمة.
وقالت خلال مؤتمر صحفي مشترك مع الرئيس الليتواني جيتاناس ناوسيدا: «نحن بحاجة إلى تحسين وضعنا الدفاعي بسرعة، وعلى نطاق واسع»، مضيفة: سيجري عرض خارطة طريق للسنوات الخمس القادمة، خلال اجتماع المجلس الأوروبي غير الرسمي المقرر في أكتوبر القادم، على أن تتناول الفجوات في الاستثمار والقدرات الدفاعية وكيفية سدها.
وأكدت ديرلاين تضامن أوروبا مع ليتوانيا، مشددة بالقول: «أوروبا تحتاج إلى ليتوانيا قوية لحماية حدودنا وشعوبنا، مشيرة إلى أن سياسة التماسك ستظل في قلب ميزانية الاتحاد الأوروبي، وسنواصل دعم أمن الحدود وسبل العيش القوية على حد سواء».
وكانت رئيسة المفوضية الأوروبية قد زارت كلاً من بلغاريا وفنلندا وإستونيا ولاتفيا وبولندا، وجميعها تشترك في حدود مع روسيا أو بيلاروس، ومن المقرر أن تتوجه اليوم إلى رومانيا.
وأفادت مجلة «بوليتيكو» بأن زيارة رئيسة المفوضية الأوروبية أورسولا فون دير لاين لأكبر شركة إنتاج أسلحة مملوكة للدولة في بلغاريا، أثارت احتجاجات من قبل أحزاب قومية، وتوتراً داخلي بشأن الدور المتنامي للبلاد كمركز لإنتاج السلاح.
وكانت رئيسة المفوضية الأوروبية، قد قالت لصحيفة «فاينانشيال تايمز» البريطانية، إن عواصم أوروبية تعمل على إعداد خطط دقيقة للغاية لنشر قوات متعددة الجنسيات في أوكرانيا ضمن إطار ضمانات أمنية لمرحلة ما بعد الحرب، والتي ستحظى بدعم كامل من القدرات الأمريكية، موضحة أن هناك «خريطة طريق واضحة» لعمليات الانتشار المحتملة.
ووفقاً للصحيفة فإنه من المقرر أن يجتمع القادة الأوروبيون في باريس (الخميس) القادم، بدعوة من الرئيس الفرنسي إيمانويل ماكرون لمواصلة المناقشات رفيعة المستوى.
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced today (Monday) the European Council's intention to present a roadmap to improve its defense posture as soon as possible and over the next five years.
During a joint press conference with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, she stated, "We need to improve our defense posture quickly and on a large scale," adding that a roadmap for the next five years will be presented during the upcoming informal European Council meeting scheduled for next October, addressing gaps in investment and defense capabilities and how to bridge them.
Von der Leyen emphasized Europe's solidarity with Lithuania, stating, "Europe needs a strong Lithuania to protect our borders and our people," noting that cohesion policy will remain at the heart of the EU budget, and we will continue to support both border security and strong livelihoods.
The President of the European Commission had visited Bulgaria, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, and Poland, all of which share borders with Russia or Belarus, and is scheduled to head to Romania today.
Politico reported that the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's visit to Bulgaria's largest state-owned arms manufacturer sparked protests from nationalist parties and internal tensions regarding the country's growing role as a weapons production hub.
The European Commission President told the British newspaper Financial Times that European capitals are working on very detailed plans to deploy multinational forces in Ukraine as part of post-war security guarantees, which will receive full support from American capabilities, clarifying that there is a "clear roadmap" for potential deployments.
According to the newspaper, European leaders are scheduled to meet in Paris next Thursday, at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, to continue high-level discussions.
