In an unprecedented scene, a session of the Mexican Senate turned into a battleground, as a brawl broke out between the leader of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) Alejandro "Alito" Moreno and the council president Gerardo Fernández Noroña, a member of the ruling Morena party.

The incident occurred while the deputies were singing the national anthem at the end of the session, following a heated debate about the presence of foreign troops on Mexican soil, according to Noroña in a subsequent press conference.

In footage broadcast live, Moreno was seen approaching Noroña, repeatedly saying, "I demand that you let me speak," while holding Noroña's arm. Noroña responded, saying, "Don't touch me," and then the two began to push each other, with Moreno causing a photographer to fall during the scuffle.

Another deputy intervened in the fight, throwing punches at Noroña as he tried to back away. Noroña stated, "Moreno started pulling me, touched me, pushed me, and hit me, saying: 'I will beat you to death, I will kill you'."

Noroña accused Moreno of assaulting him and threatening him with death, announcing his plan to hold an emergency session tomorrow (Friday) to propose the expulsion of Moreno and three other deputies from the Institutional Revolutionary Party.

In contrast, Moreno defended himself, claiming that Noroña was the one who initiated the physical altercation.

This incident reveals deep political tensions between the ruling party and the opposition in Mexico and the level of political discourse in the country.
