A senior Yemeni security official was killed today (Thursday) due to the explosion of a bomb planted in his car in Taiz Governorate, western Yemen.

Yemeni security sources confirmed the death of the director of security for the Al-Taziyah district, Major Abdullah Al-Naqeeb, as a result of the explosion of a bomb planted in his car while he was passing through Jamal Street in the center of Taiz city, indicating that the explosion caused severe injuries from which Al-Naqeeb later succumbed.

In recent days, Al-Naqeeb led security campaigns to track down lawless elements and rogue gangs within Taiz city, successfully dismantling several terrorist cells, most of which have close ties to the Houthi group and are tasked with carrying out terrorist crimes within the liberated city.

The President of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, emphasized during his meeting yesterday with the UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg that true peace begins with addressing the root of the problem and pushing the Houthis to abandon their sectarian ideology and dismantle their racist and military structure.

Al-Alimi pointed out that the dilemma is not in the details of the technical arrangements, but in the essence of the problem embodied by a group that sees itself above others and treats peace as a means of evasion, not as a strategic option in the interest of the Yemeni people.

The Yemeni president affirmed that the responsibility of the United Nations and the international community should not be limited to managing the crisis but should include providing the objective conditions for achieving sustainable peace and preventing the recurrence of wars, as well as not allowing the Houthis to reproduce their tyranny under any guise.

Al-Alimi praised the continued unity of the international community regarding the Yemeni file and the alignment of the positions of the major powers in the Security Council with the Yemeni stance on many key issues, foremost among them supporting the UN inspection mechanism and adding a military expert to the international sanctions committee.

The Yemeni president referred to the Houthi violations and their supporters of the arms embargo decision and their persistence in fabricating excuses to delay peace and prolong the conflict and humanitarian suffering, highlighting the importance of the role of the United Nations and its special envoy in warning of the dangers of violating the arms embargo decision and naming the party obstructing its peaceful efforts, in addition to the necessity of mobilizing funding to enhance the improvement of the national currency's position and achieve the desired economic recovery at all levels.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council renewed the council's and the government's support for the efforts of the United Nations and its special envoy to achieve just and comprehensive peace, in accordance with the three agreed-upon national, regional, and international references, especially Security Council Resolution 2216, during the meeting coinciding with the four-year anniversary of the appointment of UN envoy Hans Grundberg.
