At least 14 civilians were killed while trying to escape from an area besieged by Rapid Support Forces in Darfur today (Monday), according to a rights group.
The "Emergency Lawyers" Association, which documents violations committed during the war, stated that dozens were injured and an unknown number of civilians were arrested in an attack by the Rapid Support Forces on the village of Karni, located northwest of the besieged city of El Fasher in West Darfur. It indicated that the crime occurred after the victims left the city of El Fasher in an attempt to escape the conditions of the siege and escalating battles.
The Sudanese army announced yesterday that it repelled an attack by the Rapid Support Forces on the city of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state in the west of the country, confirming that the sixth infantry division and supporting forces thwarted the Rapid Support Forces' attack on the northeastern and southwestern axes of El Fasher during Friday and Saturday, inflicting heavy losses in lives and equipment.
Crimes and attacks by the Rapid Support Forces on the city of El Fasher have increased despite international condemnations and efforts to deliver humanitarian aid.
Since last year, El Fasher has witnessed clashes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, and since mid-April 2023, the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces have been engaged in a war that has resulted in the deaths of more than 20,000 people and the displacement and refuge of nearly 15 million, according to the United Nations and local authorities.
