رغم الأسابيع الطويلة من الاستنفار والجهود الطبية الشاقة، يواصل فايروس إيبولا تعميق مأساته في قلب القارة الأفريقية. تحذيرات أممية صارخة تدق ناقوس الخطر بعد أن بات التفشي الحقيقي يتجاوز قدرات الميدان، حاملاً معه أرقاماً قياسية وتخوفات جِدّية من عبور الكارثة إلى دول الجوار.
تفشٍ هو الأشرس
أعلنت منظمة الصحة العالمية، (السبت)، أن موجة تفشي فايروس إيبولا في وسط أفريقيا لا تزال خارج نطاق السيطرة، بل تأخذ منحنى أكثر خطورة وتدهوراً داخل جمهورية الكونغو الديمقراطية، وسط تصاعد المخاوف من تسرب العدوى عبر الحدود إلى الدول المجاورة.
وشددت المنظمة في بيانها الصادر على أن هذا التفشي يُعد الأكبر والأشد قسوة في تاريخ البلاد على الإطلاق، مؤكدة أن «الموقف يفرض توسيعاً عاجلاً وشاملاً لعمليات الاستجابة الميدانية قبل فوات الأوان».
حصيلة أسبوعية مرعبة
وكشفت الأرقام الرسمية الصادرة عن المنظمة عن قفزة مقلقة خلال الأسبوع الماضي فقط، حيث أُصيب 567 شخصاً وفارق الحياة 296 آخرون؛ وهي أعلى حصيلة أسبوعية تُسجل منذ اندلاع هذه الموجة.
وبذلك ترتفع الحصيلة التراكمية الموثقة مخبرياً إلى:
3,605 إصابات مؤكدة.
1,587 حالة وفاة.
651 حالة تعافٍ فقط.
وبهذه الأرقام، يتجاوز التفشي الحالي الكارثة السابقة التي شهدتها البلاد بين عامي 2018 و2020، والتي توقفت حصيلتها آنذاك عند 3,317 حالة مؤكدة.
سباق مع الزمن
من جانبها، أوضحت منظمة الصحة العالمية أن قفزة الأرقام المسجلة مؤخراً تعود جزئياً إلى اتساع نطاق عمليات الرصد والتقصي الفعال، إلى جانب تكثيف الفحوصات المخبرية في المناطق المتأثرة، مما يزيح الستار عن أعداد كان يصعب الوصول إليها سابقاً.

The fiercest outbreak
The World Health Organization announced on Saturday that the wave of Ebola virus outbreak in Central Africa is still out of control, taking a more dangerous and deteriorating turn within the Democratic Republic of the Congo, amid rising fears of the infection leaking across borders to neighboring countries.
The organization emphasized in its statement that this outbreak is the largest and most severe in the country's history, confirming that "the situation necessitates an urgent and comprehensive expansion of field response operations before it is too late."
Terrifying weekly toll
The official figures released by the organization revealed a concerning jump in numbers during the past week alone, with 567 people infected and 296 others deceased; the highest weekly toll recorded since the outbreak of this wave.
Thus, the cumulative documented toll rises to:
3,605 confirmed cases.
1,587 deaths.
651 recoveries only.
With these numbers, the current outbreak surpasses the previous disaster that the country experienced between 2018 and 2020, which had a total of 3,317 confirmed cases.
A race against time
For its part, the World Health Organization clarified that the recent surge in recorded numbers is partly due to the expansion of effective monitoring and investigation operations, along with intensified laboratory testing in the affected areas, revealing numbers that were previously difficult to access.
