في واحدة من أكثر الحوادث المروعة التي تدق ناقوس الخطر حول أخطائنا اليومية القاتلة، تحولت ليلة هادئة لشاب أيرلندي إلى كابوس مرعب، عندما استيقظ على صرخات الرعب ورائحة الدخان، بينما تلتهم النار جسده في السرير بسبب هاتفه المحمول!
الواقعة الدامية شهدتها مقاطعة «غالواي»، إذ ترك الشاب هاتفه موصولاً بالشاحن على المرتبة بجواره وغاب في نوم عميق، دون أن يدري أن استلقاءه العفوي فوق الجهاز سيحبس الحرارة المكتومة ويحول هذا الكائن الإلكتروني الصغير إلى جمرة حارقة.
ومع ارتياح الشاب في نومه فوق الهاتف، ارتفعت حرارة البطارية بشكل مفرط لتبدأ المكونات الداخلية بالانفجار الذاتي، ونتيجة للحرارة الشديدة، ذاب الهيكل الخارجي للهاتف والتصق فوراً بجلد الشاب وهو غائب عن الوعي.
صرخات الألم الرهيبة استنفرت شقيقه في الغرفة المجاورة، الذي هرع للداخل ليجد المشهد المرعب وصاح بفزع: «أنت تحترق!». وفي تمام الخامسة صباحاً، نُقل الشاب على وجه السرعة إلى المستشفى ليتلقى رعاية عاجلة في قسم الحروق، وحاجته لعمليات جراحية وتجميلية معقدة لترقيع الندوب البالغة.
وشددت فرق الإطفاء والإنقاذ على أن الحادثة كانت كفيلة بإعادة سيناريوهات سابقة انتهت بوفاة الضحايا خنقاً بالدخان، مؤكدين أن الأنسجة والمراتب تُشكل «عازلاً حرارياً خطيراً» يمنع تهوية الهواتف أثناء الشحن، مما يرفع احتمالية الاشتعال المفاجئ.
ووجهت السلطات تحذيراً شديد اللهجة عبر المنصات الرقمية لجميع مستخدمي الهواتف الذكية: «توقفوا فوراً عن ترك الهواتف بالشاحن طوال الليل على الأسرة أو تحت الوسائد.. فالغفلة لليلة واحدة قد تكلفكم حياتكم».

The bloody incident took place in County Galway, where the young man left his phone plugged into the charger on the mattress next to him and fell into a deep sleep, unaware that his spontaneous position over the device would trap the heat and turn this small electronic object into a burning ember.
As the young man rested in his sleep on the phone, the battery temperature rose excessively, causing the internal components to begin self-exploding. Due to the extreme heat, the phone's outer casing melted and immediately adhered to the young man's skin while he was unconscious.
The horrific screams of pain alerted his brother in the next room, who rushed in to find the terrifying scene and shouted in panic: "You are burning!". At exactly five in the morning, the young man was quickly taken to the hospital to receive urgent care in the burn unit, needing complex surgical and cosmetic procedures to repair the severe scars.
Fire and rescue teams emphasized that the incident was enough to bring back previous scenarios that ended with victims suffocating from smoke, confirming that fabrics and mattresses create a "dangerous thermal barrier" that prevents ventilation of phones while charging, increasing the likelihood of sudden ignition.
Authorities issued a stern warning through digital platforms to all smartphone users: "Immediately stop leaving phones on chargers overnight on beds or under pillows... for one night of negligence could cost you your life".
