At night, when the cries of the infant fill the house, parents experience a feeling of exhaustion and helplessness, as the child has no words, and crying is his only language to announce his pains and needs. Between the insatiable hunger, the sudden cramps, and the small body’s need for sleep, the ever-perturbing question remains: "What does this little one want now?"
This human security puzzle that has baffled humanity for centuries found its solution in the hands of computer science student Ahmed Hassan, who decided to harness artificial intelligence technologies to decode crying, transforming the tones of screams into clear signals that end the suffering of families.
The Egyptian student's innovation was not just a fleeting idea; it came as a result of arduous experiments, as he trained artificial intelligence software to analyze 750 different audio samples of infant cries. In the first phase, the system achieved a success rate of 84%, which prompted him to develop the algorithms until the accuracy rate reached 94%.
To eliminate any doubt about the effectiveness of the innovation, the young man underwent a rigorous testing phase, isolating 180 new audio samples that the system had not previously encountered, to prove the program's ability to accurately distinguish between cries of "hunger," "fatigue," "colicky pain," and "desire to sleep."
However, the real test of the innovation emerged when it moved from the academic realm to reality after being tested on 14 children, as one family was unable to determine the cause of their child's hysterical and continuous crying amidst a state of extreme tension.
As soon as the device was turned on and the sound analyzed, the system produced an unexpected result: "The child is suffering from stomach pain"! Indeed, medical examinations confirmed the accuracy of the smart technology's diagnosis, transforming the device from just a digital application into a true savior that restores calm to the home.
With this project, the Arab student affirms that the future lies not only in developing artificial intelligence tools for business and commerce but also in making these extraordinary technologies touch the simple daily details... and translate the simplest and most complex sounds in the world, to bring smiles and create peace within every home.
