أصدرت السفارة الأمريكية في ليبيا بياناً رسمياً، اليوم (الجمعة)، نفت فيه بشكل قاطع التقارير التي تحدثت عن خطط أمريكية مزعومة لنقل سكان قطاع غزة إلى ليبيا، ووصفت السفارة هذه الادعاءات بأنها «تحريضية وكاذبة تماماً»، مؤكدة أن الولايات المتحدة ليست طرفاً في أي ترتيبات من هذا النوع.
وجاء البيان رداً على تقارير إعلامية، من بينها تقرير نشرته شبكة «إن بي سي نيوز» الأمريكية، زعم أن إدارة الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب ناقشت خطة لإعادة توطين ما يصل إلى مليون فلسطيني من قطاع غزة في ليبيا بشكل دائم، مقابل رفع تجميد أموال محتجزة منذ سنوات. وأشار التقرير إلى مناقشات مع مسؤولين ليبيين، دون تحديد الجهة الليبية المعنية، سواء كانت حكومة الوحدة الوطنية في طرابلس أو حكومة مجلس النواب في بنغازي.
وتأتي هذه التطورات في سياق التوترات الإقليمية المستمرة، حيث تواجه غزة حصاراً وقصفاً إسرائيلياً متواصلاً منذ أكتوبر 2023، ما أدى إلى سقوط عشرات الآلاف من الضحايا، معظمهم من الأطفال والنساء، وتدمير واسع للبنية التحتية.
وقد أثارت فكرة «النقل الطوعي» أو «التهجير القسري» لسكان غزة جدلاً واسعاً، حيث اعتبرها خبراء قانونيون انتهاكاً محتملاً للقانون الدولي قد يرقى إلى مستوى جريمة الحرب بسبب محاولات إفراغ القطاع من سكانه تحت ضغط غير مشروع.
وفي وقت سابق، رفضت دول مثل مصر والأردن وإندونيسيا أي مقترحات لنقل سكان غزة إلى أراضيها، معتبرة أن ذلك يعادل «التطهير العرقي»، وقد أكدت حكومة مجلس النواب في بنغازي، في بيان منفصل، رفضها القاطع لأي محاولات لتوطين الفلسطينيين في ليبيا، مشددة على دعمها لحق الشعب الفلسطيني في أرضه.
وأشار بيان السفارة الأمريكية إلى أن هذه الادعاءات تهدف إلى التحريض ونشر معلومات مضللة، في وقت تسعى فيه واشنطن إلى تعزيز التعاون مع ليبيا في مجالات أخرى، مثل دعم العملية السياسية والتنمية الاقتصادية.
وكان كبير مستشاري الرئيس الأمريكي للشؤون الأفريقية مسعد بولس قد أجرى لقاءات مع مسؤولين ليبيين بارزين في طرابلس وبنغازي خلال الأيام الماضية تناولت قضايا الاستقرار والتعاون الاقتصادي.
ولم ترد وزارة الخارجية الأمريكية أو مجلس الأمن القومي على طلبات التعليق قبل نشر التقارير، لكن متحدثاً باسم الخارجية أكد لاحقاً أن «هذه التقارير غير صحيحة»، مشيراً إلى أن الوضع في غزة لا يحتمل مثل هذه الخطط. من جانبها، أكدت حركة حماس، عبر عضو المكتب السياسي باسم نعيم، أنها ليست على علم بأي نقاشات تتعلق بتهجير الفلسطينيين إلى ليبيا.
The U.S. Embassy in Libya issued an official statement today (Friday), firmly denying reports about alleged American plans to relocate residents of the Gaza Strip to Libya, describing these claims as "incitement and completely false," and confirming that the United States is not a party to any arrangements of this kind.
The statement came in response to media reports, including a report published by the American network "NBC News," which claimed that the administration of President Donald Trump discussed a plan to permanently resettle up to one million Palestinians from the Gaza Strip in Libya, in exchange for lifting a freeze on funds that have been held for years. The report mentioned discussions with Libyan officials, without specifying which Libyan entity was involved, whether it was the Government of National Unity in Tripoli or the House of Representatives government in Benghazi.
These developments come amid ongoing regional tensions, as Gaza faces a blockade and continuous Israeli bombardment since October 2023, resulting in tens of thousands of casualties, most of whom are children and women, and widespread destruction of infrastructure.
The idea of "voluntary relocation" or "forced displacement" of Gaza's residents has sparked widespread controversy, as legal experts consider it a potential violation of international law that could amount to a war crime due to attempts to empty the area of its inhabitants under unlawful pressure.
Earlier, countries such as Egypt, Jordan, and Indonesia rejected any proposals to transfer Gaza's residents to their territories, considering that equivalent to "ethnic cleansing." The House of Representatives government in Benghazi also issued a separate statement firmly rejecting any attempts to resettle Palestinians in Libya, emphasizing its support for the Palestinian people's right to their land.
The U.S. Embassy's statement indicated that these allegations aim to incite and spread misleading information, at a time when Washington seeks to enhance cooperation with Libya in other areas, such as supporting the political process and economic development.
U.S. President's Senior Advisor for African Affairs, Masad Boulos, has held meetings with prominent Libyan officials in Tripoli and Benghazi in recent days, addressing issues of stability and economic cooperation.
The U.S. Department of State and the National Security Council did not respond to requests for comment before the reports were published, but a spokesperson for the State Department later confirmed that "these reports are incorrect," noting that the situation in Gaza does not allow for such plans. For its part, Hamas confirmed, through Political Bureau member Bassem Naeem, that it is not aware of any discussions regarding the displacement of Palestinians to Libya.
