President Donald Trump has demanded a massive compensation (around $10 billion) from the Wall Street Journal and its owner Robert Murdoch, due to what is known as the "Epstein scandal," which has caused widespread controversy in the United States.
The newspaper published a report regarding the extent of Trump's friendship with the late businessman Jeffrey Epstein, which sparked a storm of comments, prompting the president to file a lawsuit against the newspaper and its owner.
On his platform Truth Social, Trump stated: "We have just filed a very powerful lawsuit against everyone involved in publishing the false, malicious, and defamatory article and the fake news in the (worthless rag) that is the Wall Street Journal."
The lawsuit, which also names two journalists and the News Corp company owned by Murdoch as defendants, claimed that such a message does not exist and that the newspaper deliberately sought to tarnish Trump's reputation through an article seen by hundreds of millions of people.
It added: "Given the timing of the defendants' article, which shows their malicious intent, the immense damage suffered by President Trump, both financially and to his personal reputation, will continue to multiply."
Trump wrote on his platform Truth Social: "I look forward to hearing Robert Murdoch's testimony regarding my lawsuit against him and against this journalistic 'garbage heap' the Wall Street Journal. It will be an interesting experience."
The lawsuit came after the newspaper published a report on Thursday stating that Trump wrote a provocative letter to Jeffrey Epstein on his birthday in 2003, containing a drawing of a naked woman and a reference to a "shared secret." Trump described the alleged letter as a "hoax" and "fake."
Trump has asked Attorney General Pam Bondi to seek the disclosure of testimonies given in this case before a grand jury.
It is worth noting that Jeffrey Epstein was arrested in July 2019 and faced charges of sexual exploitation of minors and conspiracy to sexually exploit minors. His death by suicide in his jail cell fueled a number of unverified theories claiming that he was killed to prevent the revelation of information related to prominent figures.
For years, figures close to the "Make America Great Again" (MAGA) movement, led by Trump, have been demanding the release of an alleged secret list of names of individuals involved with Jeffrey Epstein.
The U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation denied in a memo published days ago the existence of evidence that Epstein, who committed suicide in his cell, had a "client list," or that he was blackmailing powerful figures. They rejected claims that Epstein was murdered, confirming his death by suicide in a New York prison in 2019, and stated that they would not disclose any additional information related to the case.
