The Russian permanent mission to the European Union emphasized that a settlement in Ukraine has become impossible without Brussels recognizing the root causes of the conflict. It called on the European Union to acknowledge the existing reality and the underlying reasons for the Ukrainian crisis, for which Brussels itself bears responsibility for igniting, according to the statement.

The Russian mission confirmed that "without that, it is impossible to reach an effective settlement of the conflict in Ukraine."

Representatives of the EU member states reached an agreement on the 18th package of sanctions against Russia, which has been described as one of the harshest sanctions packages against Russia to date, according to EU Commissioner for Security and Foreign Affairs, Kaia Kalas.

Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed that the policy of containing and weakening Russia is a long-term strategy of the West, but it is ineffective, noting that the sanctions have dealt a serious blow to the global economy as a whole, and that the West seeks to destroy the lives of millions of people.

Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal revealed that the Trump administration prioritized Germany over Switzerland for the next generation of "Patriot" air defense systems, paving the way for Berlin to send two of its "Patriot" systems to Ukraine.

The U.S. commitment to quickly compensate Germany for the "Patriot" missiles it will send to Ukraine marks the first instance of the Pentagon intervening to facilitate arms delivery since Trump announced earlier this month his support for supplying Kyiv with more weapons.

The newspaper quoted a senior U.S. official stating that the Trump administration will reorganize the delivery schedule for future "Patriot" shipments, prioritizing allied countries that agree to send missiles from their arsenals to Ukraine.

Washington is expected to finalize more deals with its allies to provide additional weapons over the coming week, as U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is scheduled to meet virtually with NATO defense leaders next Monday to discuss assistance to Kyiv.

A separate meeting will be held on Wednesday involving countries that possess "Patriot" missile systems, chaired by General Alexus Grinkewich, the Supreme Allied Commander of NATO in Europe and head of the U.S. European Command.

For its part, the Swiss government announced that the United States has decided to rearrange the priorities for delivering ground-based Patriot air defense systems, as part of U.S. efforts to increase support for Ukraine.

A senior U.S. official announced that the Trump administration is seeking to negotiate individual deals with NATO member countries to purchase weapons for Ukraine. These deals go beyond the Patriot missiles and include offensive and defensive weapons that NATO countries will provide to Kyiv and then repurchase from the United States, according to the Wall Street Journal.
