The Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described U.S. President Donald Trump's statements regarding sending more weapons to Ukraine as "contradictory," considering that the situation remains unclear.
Peskov stated in remarks today (Tuesday): "Determining the type and quantities of weapons that Kyiv receives from the United States will take some time, due to the multitude of statements and varying positions."
He noted that the delivery of Western weapons to Ukraine is still ongoing, saying: "It is clear that Europeans continue to actively pump weapons into Ukraine."
The Kremlin expressed its appreciation for Trump's efforts aimed at initiating direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, considering that any initiative contributing to ending the conflict deserves attention.
Trump announced yesterday (Monday) that his country would send more weapons, primarily defensive ones, to Ukraine to help it defend itself against the increasing Russian advance.
In another matter, the Kremlin spokesman expressed his shock at the suicide of Russian Transport Minister Roman Starovoit, a day after his body was found in a suburb of Moscow following President Vladimir Putin's announcement of his dismissal.
He said: "This shocked ordinary people... and of course, it shocked us as well," adding that he "does not wish to comment" on the case, but noted that President Putin was informed immediately.
Suicide after dismissal
The Russian Investigative Committee announced in a statement on Monday that Transport Minister Roman Starovoit committed suicide after President Vladimir Putin dismissed him from his position. The committee stated: "The body of the former Russian Transport Minister, Roman Vladimirovich Starovoit, was found in his car with a gunshot wound." It added that the main hypothesis for his death is suicide.
The Kremlin issued a decree yesterday signed by Putin announcing the dismissal of Roman Starovoit from his position as Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, without providing any explanation for the sudden dismissal.
Putin appointed Starovoit's former deputy, Andrei Nikitin, as the new minister in his place.
Russian media reported that the dismissal of Roman Starovoit is linked to potential corruption in the Kursk region. The Russian Ministry of Transport manages road construction and restoration works in the occupied Ukrainian territories, a sector rife with corruption. Starovoit, 53, was appointed Minister of Transport in May 2024, after serving as the governor of the Kursk region from 2019 to 2024.
