توفي الدكتور بكر عبدالله بن بكر، المدير السابق لجامعة الملك فهد للبترول والمعادن، بعد مسيرة علمية وأكاديمية وإدارية ودبلوماسية حافلة، عُدّ خلالها من رواد التعليم العالي في المملكة.
ونعت جامعة الملك فهد للبترول والمعادن مديرها السابق، معربةً عن بالغ الحزن والأسى لوفاته، ومقدمةً تعازيها ومواساتها لأسرة الفقيد.
أول مهندس بترول سعودي
ويُعد الراحل أول مهندس بترول سعودي يعمل في شركة أرامكو السعودية عام 1963، بعد حصوله على درجة البكالوريوس في هندسة البترول من جامعة تكساس في العام ذاته.
وُلد الدكتور بكر بن بكر في الطائف، وتلقى تعليمه فيها حتى المرحلة الثانوية، قبل ابتعاثه إلى الولايات المتحدة، حيث واصل دراسته الجامعية في تخصص هندسة البترول.
تأسيس كلية البترول والمعادن
وأسهم الدكتور بكر بن بكر عام 1965 في تأسيس كلية البترول والمعادن ووضع خطتها التعليمية والإدارية، قبل أن يُعيّن عميداً للكلية عام 1970.
وفي عام 1975، أصبح أول مدير لجامعة الملك فهد للبترول والمعادن، واستمر في هذا المنصب حتى عام 1995، في مرحلة أسهمت في تعزيز مكانة الجامعة محليّاً ودوليّاً.
مسيرة دبلوماسية
وبعد مسيرته الأكاديمية والإدارية، واصل الدكتور بكر بن بكر خدمته للوطن في المجال الدبلوماسي، إذ عُيّن سفيراً للمملكة العربية السعودية لدى الجمهورية التونسية عام 1995.
كما عُيّن عام 1999 سفيراً للمملكة لدى الجمهورية العربية السورية، ليختتم بذلك مسيرة امتدت بين قطاع الطاقة والتعليم العالي والعمل الدبلوماسي.

The First Saudi Petroleum Engineer
The late Dr. Bakr bin Bakr is regarded as the first Saudi petroleum engineer to work at Saudi Aramco in 1963, after obtaining his bachelor's degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Texas in the same year.
Dr. Bakr bin Bakr was born in Taif and received his education there until high school, before being sent to the United States, where he continued his university studies in petroleum engineering.
Establishment of the College of Petroleum and Minerals
In 1965, Dr. Bakr bin Bakr contributed to the establishment of the College of Petroleum and Minerals and developed its educational and administrative plan, before being appointed as the dean of the college in 1970.
In 1975, he became the first director of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, and he held this position until 1995, during a period that contributed to enhancing the university's status both locally and internationally.
Diplomatic Career
After his academic and administrative career, Dr. Bakr bin Bakr continued to serve his country in the diplomatic field, as he was appointed as the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Republic of Tunisia in 1995.
He was also appointed in 1999 as the Ambassador of the Kingdom to the Syrian Arab Republic, thus concluding a career that spanned across the energy sector, higher education, and diplomatic work.
