At the time the wife was lying in the hospital following a case of what is known as "pregnancy denial," a family dispute over closed cardboard boxes at home led the husband to open one, only to come face to face with the decomposed body of an infant.
Terrified, the husband carried the box to the hospital, rushing to inform the authorities, prompting the police to conduct a thorough search of the home that ended with a horrific discovery; four other bodies of infants, wrapped in plastic bags and hidden in cardboard boxes among the family's belongings.
The incident, which caused a shocking uproar in the "Vaucluse" region of southeastern France and was documented by the newspaper "Le Parisien," presented investigators with a complex human and psychological puzzle, especially since the couple has two other children aged 8 and 12 years.
