In a new attack on socialist Zahran Mamdani, who won the Democratic Party's nomination for Mayor of New York City last week, U.S. President Donald Trump threatened today (Sunday) to deny him any federal funds.
When asked about Mamdani's victory, Trump said during an interview on "Fox News": "He's a communist, I think that's bad for New York," adding, "I don't know if he'll win... it's inconceivable that this could happen, but he's a communist, a pure communist, I think he admits that, but I can't imagine it."
Trump urged Mamdani to do "the right thing if he actually wins." This came three days after a similar attack where he described him as "the crazy communist."
Trump stated in posts on his platform "Truth Social" on Wednesday that the Democrats crossed the red line by nominating Mamdani for the mayoral election, emphasizing: "Zahran Mamdani the crazy communist just won 100% in the Democratic primary, and he's on his way to becoming the city's mayor," adding, "We've seen extreme leftists before, but this is starting to get a bit ridiculous."
Trump attacked Mamdani by saying: "His appearance is terrible, his voice is annoying, he's not very smart, and he has the support of progressive Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and three other Congresswomen, all of whom are fools, and even the great Palestinian senator, (crying Chuck Schumer), flatters him. Yes, this is a big moment in the history of our country."
Mamdani had won the Democratic Party's nomination to run for Mayor of New York (on Tuesday), while his opponent, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, conceded defeat before the votes were fully counted.
