يناقش قادة الاتحاد الأوروبي في قمتهم في بروكسل اليوم (الخميس) تقديم المزيد من الدعم لأوكرانيا والتطورات في الشرق الأوسط، وذلك غداة قمة حلف شمال الأطلسي (ناتو) في لاهاي.
ومن المقرر أن تدور المحادثات حول مواصلة اتفاقية الشراكة بين الاتحاد الأوروبي وإسرائيل من عدمها، وذلك على خلفية تقرير مراجعة اتهم إسرائيل بانتهاك مبادئ محددة للتعاون الوثيق مع الاتحاد عبر نهجها في قطاع غزة، خصوصاً أن هناك دولاً أوروبية، مثل إسبانيا، تطالب بتعليق الاتفاقية، فيما تعارض ألمانيا مثل هذه الخطوة.
وقال المستشار الألماني فريدريش ميرتس الذي يحضر لأول مرة القمة الأوروبية منذ توليه منصبه: «إن تعطيل الاتفاقية أو إنهاءها أمر غير وارد بالنسبة للحكومة الألمانية». كما سيناقش قادة القارة العجوز مواصلة الدعم لأوكرانيا في حربها ضد روسيا، بمشاركة الرئيس زيلينسكي عبر الفيديو.
ولا تزال هناك شكوك بما إذا كانت الدول الأوروبية الـ27 ستتمكن من الاتفاق على نهج مشترك في ما يتعلق بمواصلة الدعم، خصوصاً في ظل رفض رئيس الوزراء المجري فيكتور أوربان التوقيع على بيان ختامي مشترك في هذا الشأن، كما سيناقش قادة الاتحاد فرض مزيد من العقوبات ضد روسيا عبر الحزمة الثامنة عشرة المخطط لها من العقوبات، التي تستهدف قطاع الطاقة الروسي والقطاع المصرفي الروسي.
وتشير التقارير الإعلامية الغربية إلى أن الاجتماع سيناقش أيضاً القدرة التنافسية لأوروبا والصراع الجمركي مع الحكومة الأمريكية تحت قيادة الرئيس دونالد ترمب، ومن المتوقع أن يعطي قادة الدول الأعضاء في الاتحاد الضوء الأخضر لإدخال عملة اليورو في بلغاريا العام القادم.
EU leaders are discussing today (Thursday) at their summit in Brussels the provision of more support for Ukraine and developments in the Middle East, following the NATO summit in The Hague.
The talks are set to revolve around whether to continue the partnership agreement between the EU and Israel, against the backdrop of a review report that accused Israel of violating specific principles for close cooperation with the Union through its approach in the Gaza Strip, especially since there are European countries, such as Spain, calling for the suspension of the agreement, while Germany opposes such a move.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, attending the European summit for the first time since taking office, stated: "Disrupting or ending the agreement is not an option for the German government." The leaders of the old continent will also discuss continuing support for Ukraine in its war against Russia, with President Zelensky participating via video.
There are still doubts about whether the 27 European countries will be able to agree on a common approach regarding continued support, especially in light of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's refusal to sign a joint final statement on this matter. The leaders will also discuss imposing further sanctions against Russia through the planned eighteenth package of sanctions, which targets the Russian energy sector and the Russian banking sector.
Western media reports indicate that the meeting will also discuss Europe's competitiveness and the trade conflict with the U.S. government under President Donald Trump, and EU member state leaders are expected to give the green light for the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria next year.
