After the Sudanese army forces fully established their control over the capital, Khartoum, the confrontations with the Rapid Support Forces shifted westward towards the states of North, South, and West Kordofan.
The "Western Rescue Road," which connects the capital Khartoum to the Kordofan states before ending in the Darfur region, holds significant importance in the battles between the army and the Rapid Support Forces. The army aims for it to serve as an entry point for its forces to penetrate the Darfur region, while the Rapid Support Forces consider it a forward defense line for the region and a base for their ambition to advance into the capital once again.
The border state of West Kordofan, adjacent to South Sudan, includes about 15 localities and most of Sudan's oil fields, and it has become the scene of the fiercest battles between the army and the Rapid Support Forces.
The battles resulted in both sides exchanging control over the cities of Al-Khoy and Al-Nuhud in a series of back-and-forth skirmishes, with the Rapid Support Forces ultimately asserting control over the two cities.
The army managed to repel violent waves of attacks launched by the Rapid Support Forces on the city of Babanusa, which houses the command of the 22nd Infantry Division of the Sudanese army.
North Kordofan is witnessing intermittent battles; however, the Rapid Support Forces have intensified their attacks using drones on the city of Al-Obeid and the town of Al-Ruhad.
As the Rapid Support Forces attempt to advance towards Al-Obeid from their controlled areas in the northern part of the state, primarily from the city of Bara, the Sudanese army seeks to eliminate the presence of the Rapid Support Forces in the northern part of the state and some areas in the south, in preparation for lifting the siege on South Kordofan.
South Kordofan, the last of the three Kordofan states, is experiencing fierce battles between the army on one side and the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement led by Abdel Aziz al-Hilu on the other. The army has gained control over the areas of Al-Dubaybat and Al-Hamadi with the aim of lifting the siege on the cities of Dalang and Kadugli before the Rapid Support Forces regained control over them.
The army has regained control over the eastern part of the state, specifically in the area of Um Dhuhailib, after battles with the Rapid Support Forces, which threatens the area of Kauda, the main stronghold of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement led by Abdel Aziz al-Hilu, allied with the Rapid Support Forces in South Kordofan.
The Rapid Support Forces renewed their drone attacks on the city of Al-Obeid in North Kordofan today (Monday).
This is the second attack on the city within four days, as a drone targeted civilian facilities in Al-Obeid on the first day of Eid al-Adha.
The attack on the capital of North Kordofan comes amid mobilization operations and fierce battles taking place in the three Kordofan states.
