Amid tight security measures, during his first visit to the city since the fall of the previous regime and his rise to power, Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara arrived in the city of Daraa in the south today (Friday). Accompanying al-Shara on the visit are several Syrian officials, including Interior Minister Anas Khattab. Footage circulating showed a public reception for al-Shara in the city.

Video clips captured al-Shara visiting the governor's palace in Daraa amidst a warm welcome from the locals and dignitaries of the region. Local sources confirmed that the city witnessed heightened security measures, including a significant presence of security personnel and the closure of several roads.

Al-Shara's visit to the city of Daraa in southern Syria comes amid escalating security tensions with Israel, as the occupying army renewed its shelling of sites in Daraa and launched airstrikes on towns in the Damascus countryside. The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the Israeli bombardment of villages and towns in Daraa province, which resulted in significant human and material losses.

The Syrian news agency "SANA" reported that the Internal Security Directorate in the city of Qusayr in the Homs countryside thwarted an attempt to smuggle a shipment of weapons that was intended to cross into Lebanese territory. The agency clarified that the shipment was seized inside a truck and included guided anti-tank missiles and 30mm ammunition. The truck driver was arrested and referred to the competent judiciary to take legal action against him. Security authorities confirmed that the operation is part of their ongoing efforts to combat arms smuggling and secure the borders.
