A meeting was held today (Sunday) in the Syrian capital, Damascus, between the government committee and a delegation from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to discuss the implementation of the agreement that took place between President Ahmad al-Shara and SDF leader Mazloum Abdi last March. According to the Syrian news agency "SANA," several important files were agreed upon.
Committee member Brigadier General Ziad al-Ayash stated: "The meeting was held in a positive atmosphere characterized by a spirit of responsibility and mutual concern for the national interest," explaining that during the meeting, there was consensus on several important files, most notably the formation of specialized subcommittees to follow up on the implementation of the agreement of March 10, signed between President Ahmad al-Shara and General Mazloum Abdi.
He pointed out that there was agreement to work on resolving the outstanding issues related to exams and examination centers, ensuring the rights of students and the safety of the educational process. Mechanisms to facilitate the return of displaced persons to their areas were also discussed, along with efforts to remove the obstacles hindering this return. He indicated that there was consensus on reactivating the agreement for the neighborhoods of Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud in the city of Aleppo and working to address it in a way that serves stability and civil peace.
Al-Ayash noted that both parties affirmed their commitment to constructive dialogue and ongoing cooperation, which serves the unity and sovereignty of Syria and fulfills the aspirations of the Syrian people for security and stability. They agreed to schedule another meeting soon to continue discussions and follow up on the implementation of what was agreed upon.
Arab media reported that the meeting between the two sides was held in the presence of an American official residing in Damascus and working for the U.S. Department of State, indicating that he represented the government side as the Assistant Minister of Interior of Syria, while the Kurdish political self-administration delegation was led by Fawza Yusuf.
