أكد رئيس بعثة القوات الدولية العاملة في جنوب لبنان (اليونيفيل) وقائدها العام الجنرال أرولدو لاثارو، اليوم (الخميس)، أن الطريق إلى السلام في الجنوب اللبناني سياسي، داعياً للعمل على تهيئة الظروف المناسبة لحل مستدام وطويل الأمد.
وشدد لاثارو خلال احتفال أقامها «اليونيفيل» في مقره العام بمنطقة الناقورة في جنوب لبنان باليوم الدولي لحفظة السلام التابعين للأمم المتحدة، على ضرورة وجود عملية سياسية، مبيناً أن الوضع على طول الخط الأزرق لا يزال متوتراً وغير متوقّع، مع انتهاكات متكرّرة والخوف من مخاطر أي خطأ قد يؤدي إلى ما لا يحمد عقباه.
وأشار إلى أنه ومن خلال آليات الارتباط والتنسيق الخاصة بقواته، فإنها توفّر قناة للحوار وتهدئة الأوضاع، وتساهم في بناء أسس لإمكانية إيجاد حل، موضحاً أن إحدى الخطوات المهمة في الأشهر الأخيرة كانت نشر المزيد من جنود الجيش اللبناني في الجنوب، ويجب الحفاظ على وجودهم، بصفتهم الضامن الوحيد لسلطة الدولة وأمنها، ولهذا، لا بد للأفرقاء الدوليين من الاستمرار في تقديم المساعدات.
ووضع الجنرال لاثارو وممثل قائد الجيش اللبناني، العميد نقولا تابت، أكاليل الزهور تكريماً لذكرى حفظة السلام الذين سقطوا، مؤكدين أنهم يتذكرون تضحياتهم ويقدمون احترامهم وامتنانهم.
وشدد القياديان بالقول: «اليوم نرثيهم، ولكن إرثهم سيبقى أساس هذه البعثة وسيُلهم جميع من يرتدي الخوذة الزرقاء»، مضيفين: «بينما نحتفل بالذكرى السابعة والسبعين لعمليات حفظ السلام التابعة للأمم المتحدة، فلنجدد أيضاً التزامنا المشترك بمستقبل أكثر سلاماً، لجنوب لبنان، وللمنطقة، ولجميع النزاعات التي تسعى فيها الأمم المتحدة إلى إحلال السلام».
The head of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and its commander, General Aruldo Latharo, confirmed today (Thursday) that the road to peace in southern Lebanon is political, calling for efforts to create the appropriate conditions for a sustainable and long-term solution.
Latharo emphasized during a celebration held by UNIFIL at its headquarters in the Naqoura area of southern Lebanon for the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, the necessity of a political process, indicating that the situation along the Blue Line remains tense and unpredictable, with repeated violations and the fear of risks from any mistake that could lead to dire consequences.
He pointed out that through the liaison and coordination mechanisms of his forces, they provide a channel for dialogue and de-escalation, contributing to building the foundations for a potential solution. He clarified that one of the important steps in recent months was the deployment of more Lebanese Army soldiers in the south, and their presence must be maintained, as they are the only guarantors of the state's authority and security. Therefore, international parties must continue to provide assistance.
General Latharo and the representative of the Lebanese Army commander, Brigadier General Nicolas Tabet, laid wreaths in honor of the fallen peacekeepers, affirming that they remember their sacrifices and express their respect and gratitude.
The two leaders stressed by saying: "Today we mourn them, but their legacy will remain the foundation of this mission and will inspire all who wear the blue helmet," adding: "As we celebrate the seventy-seventh anniversary of United Nations peacekeeping operations, let us also renew our shared commitment to a more peaceful future for southern Lebanon, for the region, and for all conflicts where the United Nations seeks to establish peace."
