The Imam and preacher of the Grand Mosque, His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Awad Al-Juhani, advised Muslims to fear Allah, who did not create them in vain, nor leave their affairs neglected. Indeed, he who obeys his Lord and devotes himself to Him sincerely, and performs his obligations beautifully, is the one who succeeds, while he who wastes his time in vain pursuits and leaves his life devoid of obedience is the one who fails.
In his sermon delivered today at the Grand Mosque, he said: Since a person must inevitably transition from this world to the Hereafter, the Lord of the worlds, exalted be He, sent messengers from among them to inform them about the abode they will transition to and the nature of the path leading to it.
His Eminence clarified that Allah, blessed and exalted, revealed to His Messenger Muhammad -peace be upon him and his family- a clear and sufficient description of the Day of Judgment, the destruction of the entire world, and what follows it in terms of resurrection, so that every person may enter his place, for He is the most truthful of speakers: {And the Horn will be blown, and whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth will fall dead, except for whom Allah wills. Then it will be blown again, and at once they will be standing, looking on.}.
Placing Hopes in Allah
He warned against placing intermediaries between the servant and his Lord, blessed and exalted, for He is close to you, closer to you than your jugular vein, and He, the Most High, is distinct from His creation, established on His Throne, and nothing is like Him; He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.
Sheikh Abdullah Al-Juhani urged Muslims to place their hopes in Allah alone, to turn to Him in all matters, to remember His greatness and power in all situations, and to seek help and fulfill their needs from Him, for He holds the measures of affairs and the treasures of the heavens and the earth, and the keys to everything. Everything besides Him belongs to Allah, so flee to Him: they do not possess for themselves harm or benefit except what Allah wills. And whatever Allah opens for people of mercy, none can withhold it, and whatever He withholds, none can release it after Him; He is the Almighty, the All-Wise.
He concluded his sermon by saying: Fortify yourselves with the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet -peace be upon him-, from the innovations of matters, and worship Allah with knowledge and insight. Fear Allah and be mindful of Him, for He sees you and hears you, so let your desires follow what His Messenger has brought, and increase your utterance of "There is no deity but Allah," for it is the key to Paradise. Realize its meaning, and send blessings and peace upon our noble Prophet, for it is his right upon his nation, and through it, your hearts will be opened, your worries will be lifted, your needs will be fulfilled, your sins will be forgiven, and you will be worthy of his intercession for you.
The Sermon of the Prophet's Mosque
The esteemed Imam and preacher of the Prophet's Mosque, Sheikh Dr. Abdul Mohsen bin Muhammad Al-Qasim, spoke about the status of the Holy Quran, pointing out its virtue, its merits, its miraculous nature, and its comprehensiveness regarding the affairs of this world and the Hereafter. In it lies the righteousness of the servant, his success, and his salvation; it is the most truthful and complete of books, and Allah has taken it upon Himself to preserve it until the Day of Resurrection.
Sheikh Dr. Abdul Mohsen Al-Qasim clarified in his Friday sermon from the Prophet's Mosque today that Allah, blessed and exalted, created creation and commanded them to worship Him, sending to them His messengers as a mercy to them, and revealing with each of them a book to complete the evidence and explanation. He said, "Mankind was one nation, so Allah sent the prophets as bringers of good tidings and warners, and He sent down with them the Book in truth." Allah has favored the Holy Quran over all other books, as it contains the virtues of what came before it and has added to it perfections that are not found in others, making it a witness, a guardian, and a judge over all of them. Every book attests to the truthfulness of the Quran; it is the Book of Allah, as He said: "And We have sent down to you the Book in truth, confirming what was before it of the Book and a guardian over it."
The Imam and preacher of the Prophet's Mosque added that no book has been sent down from the heavens that is more guiding than the Holy Quran; it is the best of the hadiths revealed from Allah. Allah said: "Allah has sent down the best speech, a Book consistent and repeating." Allah has bestowed upon His Messenger this honor, saying: "And We have certainly given you seven of the oft-repeated verses and the great Quran." It is an honor for those who follow it and act upon it from this nation, as He said: "Indeed, We have sent down to you a Book in which is your mention."
He mentioned that Allah, blessed and exalted, described the Holy Quran as glorious, noble, and mighty, and challenged creation to bring forth something like it, or like ten chapters of it, or like a chapter of it. Its eloquence, rhetoric, organization, and style are astonishing, extraordinary, and beyond the ordinary, confounding the eloquent and the articulate in their opposition. It is not of the genre of poetry, nor oratory, nor letters, nor is its composition like that of any speech of people, whether Arab or non-Arab. Its verses combine grandeur, fluency, strength, and sweetness; the eloquent and articulate among the Arabs heard it and acknowledged its uniqueness.
He explained that despite the miraculous nature of the Holy Quran, Allah has made it easy for creation to recite it and has facilitated its meaning, as He said: "And We have certainly made the Quran easy to remember." Moreover, the miracle in the meaning of the Holy Quran is greater and more abundant than the miracle in its wording, for it is a decisive word, encompassing the principles of religion, this world, and the Hereafter. It contains beliefs, rulings, legislations, ethics, stories, news, admonitions, and the foundations of happiness and success. Its verses are precise in wording and detailed in meaning; the words of the Most Merciful, exalted be He, are great, and His wonders do not perish, nor can His miracles be encompassed by what is in His verses and chapters. His verses increase in faith, and reciting it brings a reward equal to the letters, even multiplied. The Messenger of Allah -peace be upon him- said: "Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah, he will have a good deed for it, and a good deed is multiplied by ten." (Narrated by Al-Tirmidhi).
The Imam and preacher of the Prophet's Mosque stated regarding the status of the Holy Quran: Those of the People of the Book who adhere to its requirements rejoice in the Quran, for what is in their books bears witness to its truthfulness and gives glad tidings of it. Allah said: "And those to whom We gave the Scripture rejoice in what has been revealed to you." It is a miraculous book that Allah has made a sign of the truthfulness of the prophethood of Muhammad -peace be upon him-; it does not cease with his death, but remains until the Day of Resurrection.
His Eminence said: Due to the elevation of the Quran, Allah has raised its people to high ranks and noble abodes, and He has magnified their sanctity. The Prophet -peace be upon him- loved the reciters and trusted them, and he grieved for their deaths, and he would supplicate for those who were killed for a month, and he did not supplicate for anyone for a long time except for those who wronged them, as the rightly guided caliphs followed the path of honoring the people of the Quran and respecting them, recognizing their worth. Allah has taken it upon Himself to preserve this miracle, so it will not be altered or vanish, as evidenced by the saying of the Prophet -peace be upon him-: "Indeed, my Lord has commanded me to teach you what you were ignorant of from what He taught me on this day, and He said: 'And I have sent down to you a Book that water cannot wash away.'" (Narrated by Muslim).
His Eminence clarified that Allah has not sent down a book from the heavens among the multiple books revealed to His prophets that is more complete, comprehensive, eloquent, greater, or more honorable than the Quran. It is a favor from Allah and a mercy to His servants. Whoever rejoices in it and in Islam has rejoiced in the greatest thing to rejoice in, and they are better than what is collected from the debris of this world and its wealth and treasures. Allah said: "Say, 'In the bounty of Allah and in His mercy - in that let them rejoice; it is better than what they accumulate.'" The fortunate one is the one who directs his ambition towards learning the Quran and teaching it, and the successful one is the one whom Allah has chosen to honor it, honor its people, and remind others of it.
He concluded the sermon by calling for the continuous recitation of the Book of Allah, reflecting on its meanings, reminding that whoever seeks guidance should turn to the Quran, and whoever wishes to benefit from it should gather his heart while reciting and listening to it, feeling that the words of Allah are directed to him. It is a message from Him to the servants through the tongue of His Messenger -peace be upon him-; there is nothing more beneficial for the servant in his life and afterlife, and nothing closer to his salvation than the recitation of the Quran. He added that whoever reflects on the Quran seeking guidance will find the path of truth.
