School libraries are witnessing a high influx of parents and guardians aiming to split textbooks into two parts, as they have become a heavy burden on the backs of students.
According to Mohammed Al-Qathami, who told "Okaz" that his son suffers from a weak physical build and cannot carry the heavy textbooks, which contain some of the entire school year's curriculum, he was compelled to go to one of the libraries to have the books split into two parts to make them easier to carry. Abdullah Al-Sufyani pointed out that the libraries place the books that need to be divided into bags, which has led to a mix-up between the books.
Meanwhile, Umm Sahar Al-Otaibi (the mother of a student) expressed her astonishment at the merging of curricula into a single book, which has caused a heavy burden on students and has led to exploitation by some bookstore owners who demand large amounts of money in exchange for splitting the books into two parts, resulting in parents paying around 25 riyals for each book.
“Okaz” observed one of the libraries and witnessed a high demand from parents to alleviate the burden on their children.
