According to "Okaz," it has been reported that approval has been granted for the adoption of the targeted operational model to enable the Jeddah Municipality to carry out monitoring tasks and protect the coastline environmentally, following the recent Cabinet decision to assign it the responsibility of monitoring the coastline extending from the Al-Sufah Center in Rabigh Governorate to the Al-Kuduf Center in Qunfudhah Governorate to the south.

According to the approved operational decision, marine activities refer to six activities, the first of which includes fishing, diving, swimming, marine tourism and recreation, maritime passenger transport, and marine events and sports.

According to the instructions, the Jeddah Municipality will coordinate with the relevant authorities regarding the monitoring of the coastline extending from the Al-Sufah Center in Rabigh Governorate to the Al-Kuduf Center in Qunfudhah Governorate, and its environmental protection, through mechanisms that include monitoring marine units, marine activity sites, and navigation routes leading to them, provided that this does not conflict with security aspects related to sensitive locations, monitoring private, commercial, and public docks, ensuring compliance with the approved technical specifications, and the allowed number of marine vessels for each dock, monitoring the places for launching and retrieving vessels to and from the sea, and providing lifeguards, monitors, and signage in designated swimming areas on public beaches and diving sites, and taking necessary measures to require operators and investors of private docks and beaches to provide lifeguards, monitors, and signage for those sites, as well as monitoring violations related to marine activities using modern technologies and notifying the relevant authorities to address them, and submitting periodic reports on the violations observed to those authorities.

The instructions emphasized that the relevant authorities should provide the Jeddah Municipality with a list of violations to be monitored within 30 days from the date of the decision, with the boundaries of the assignment to be according to the coordinates and the interactive map approved by the General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information.

Contact Officer for Coordination and Data

The instructions stressed that the Jeddah Municipality and the relevant authorities should designate a contact officer for coordination and the exchange of data and information related to the implementation of the decision, without affecting the ownership of that data and information specific to each entity.

The spokesperson for the Jeddah Municipality, Mohammed Al-Buqami, informed "Okaz" that the municipality has launched the work of the Marine Monitoring and Coastal Protection Agency in order to preserve and protect the beaches, noting that the municipality is responsible for monitoring marine activities and protecting the coasts environmentally along the beaches between Jeddah and Rabigh Governorates. He indicated that the municipality appreciates the Cabinet's decision to assign it the monitoring of the coastline extending from the Al-Sufah Center in Rabigh Governorate to the Al-Kuduf Center in Qunfudhah Governorate to the south, considering the decision an important step in preserving the coasts and protecting the marine beaches, affirming its commitment to mobilizing all its resources to carry out the task in cooperation and coordination with the relevant authorities.
