Under the supervision of the Ministry of Energy, and during the participation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the Damascus International Fair, an agreement and six memorandums of understanding were signed between Saudi companies and the Ministry of Energy of the Syrian Arab Republic, covering various areas related to the energy sector.
The Saudi company ACWA Power signed an agreement with the Syrian Ministry of Energy to conduct the necessary studies for preparing development proposals for the establishment of solar energy plants and storage systems with a capacity of up to 1000 megawatts, in addition to developing wind energy plants with a production capacity of up to 1500 megawatts. The agreement also included evaluating existing plants within the Syrian electrical system and providing the necessary proposals for their rehabilitation or development, or concluding appropriate operation and maintenance contracts, and conducting a technical study to assess the electrical network and its stability and to determine the optimal energy mix for electricity generation in Syria.
Additionally, six memorandums of understanding were signed between Saudi companies and the Syrian Ministry of Energy, covering several areas, most notably exploration, production, and development of existing gas fields in Syria, drilling and completing wells, processing natural gas and converting it into energy, conducting geophysical and geological surveys, collecting, processing, and interpreting seismic data, research and development in earth sciences and geological studies, and building Syrian capacities in the energy sector through the transfer of expertise and technology, and enhancing investment opportunities in the oil and gas sectors.
Furthermore, Taqa Company and Addis Holding signed two memorandums of understanding in the field of providing integrated solutions for the development and management of oil and gas fields. The Arab Drilling Company also signed a memorandum of understanding in the field of oil field services, well drilling and maintenance, technical training, and workforce development. On another related note, the Arab Geophysical and Surveying Company signed a memorandum of understanding in the field of conducting geophysical and geological surveys.
In the field of electrical energy, the Saudi Electricity Company signed a memorandum of understanding in the field of electricity generation, transmission, and distribution, and providing technical and consulting support in the field of electricity. The Saudi Electricity Company for Project Development also signed a memorandum of understanding covering engineering and consulting fields, as well as projects for electrical transmission and distribution stations.
This agreement and the memorandums of understanding come within the framework of the growing and escalating relationship between the two countries in the recent past, including their relations in the energy fields, which recently witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of energy between the governments of the two countries, encouraging cooperation between them in the fields of oil and gas, petrochemicals, electricity and electrical interconnection, and renewable energy.
